Seems to be pretty smooth, fast and lightweight. However i have noticed some bugs and a few FC's and the new voice search feature is AMAZING...when its working, seems to get stuck sometimes.
Impressed with the rom and gingerbread.
I did notice on the Cronos Project site that they offer some pretty cool boot loader animations.
I understand that one does not apply these as .zip but to place it in an internal folder on the sdcard.
Also i read somewhere that the folder to place the file in may change depending on the rom.
I want to DL one but can someone please clarify where i would place the boot loader file with Cronos ? and do i un-zip the file and place the contents in that folder or just place the .zip file in there?
Have you figured out what to do with the SetCPU app since the 2.3 roms seems to come with some sort of a CPU govner in the CM settings>preformance>CPU settings.
I haven't loaded it yet because im not sure how it will affect everything.
Really sorry guys, I was away for a week
In my opinion, the 1.6.0 version (Android 2.3.3 based) was pretty nice. Stable and fast. With Zeam Launcher it works good
Now I'm going to flash the 1.7.0 release.
Cronos Ginger is the best Gingerbread ROM for Hero now.
p.s.: from 1.3.0 to 1.4.0 and to 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 I've NEVER wipe data... just only one time a wipe dalvik and everything was perfect!
Last edited by TheBuzz; March 5th, 2011 at 04:33 AM.
Flashing 1.7.0 before a wipe dalvik cache and a wipe cache, flashing the lastest gapps...... every contacts, sms, mms, wifi settings and everything else were not erase!!!! I've got the same phone, with every data but with the new release! Sounds good!
Damnit Xyro a new patch already!!!!!! i cant keep up man...lol, i barely have time to tweak everything before i gotta wipe and reflash...lol
5 Mar 2011 | Cronos Ginger 1.8.0
Fresh full clean Sources (Again..)
Fixed Battery Icon
Fixed WiFi/3G Bug.
Unlocked Android 2.3 Audio effects for Music Player.

Patched libfreetype for better rendering of fonts.
CM Extra updated to latest version.

So i would Flash the new release first and then just wipe dalvik?
or
Wipe dalvik and then flash?
And just dalvik? not cache?
this should help in not having to re-tweak everything...hm wish i knew this earlier
Right,i know how to flash but what I was wondering was the process if your coming from another version off the same rom.like the buzz said so that I don't have to re-tweak everything
That's what I said in my post If you wanted to do a full wipe, you'd do a factory reset along with the other wipes too. Without that factory reset, you're only wiping the two cahces and don't lose any data.
Boot to recovery, nand/nand + ext backup, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash the zip and reboot.
Also, make sure to repeat the process for every zip you flash; you should be rebooting between each one.
With 1.8.0 release is VERY RACCOMANDED to wipe data/factory reset because there's a lot of changes and applications can crush.
With old versions I had NO PROBLEMS flashing without wipping
The 1.8.0 is amazing!

I've not really had any stability issues in a while now, compared to 2.2.
13 Mar 2011 | Cronos Ginger 1.9.0

Added new EVO3 Kernel.
Fixed Volume Key handling. (nadlabak)
Added DSPManager Again.
Patched libfreetype for better rendering of fonts.
Changed animation speeds to be a bit slower. (Nicer to look at)
seems to be working great. Never could get the screen on/off animations to work but now works great and i have actually noticed that since i have not installed the SetCpu app and let the kernel and gingerbread do their job, my battery life has gone way up and my phone is still running very fast.
Mind you this is from only a few days between flashes.
How have all of your battery life been with this rom?
And are you using SetCpu with it as well?
I've been using one called CPUBoost recently. It comes with a widget you can toggle to switch the phone between two speeds, so I have it at about 600ish normally and up to 710 when I press the widget.

No need to make a new thread for each version Buzz. If we did that we'd probably fill up the whole all things root page, at the rate freeyo is releasing them :P I brought that post over to this thread.

oooook Xyro, sorry This is really true eheheh
Please change the main thread name in ".....2.3.3" and not "....2.3.2", just for a correct information
I would like to upload some screenshots (for a more complete information) but I've got some problems with the size of my *.png files. Now I try to resize them with photoshop.

Well spotted
You could also host them on an image sharing site and link them here, rather than uploading them to AF. That way the file size shouldn't be a problem.
EDIT: Never mind, I see you've already added them.
Ahh will give it a try!
Bit of a noob question here but; how did you change the colours of the icons in the notification bar, buzz?
In Cronos ROMs there's a theme chooser application with three different themes. They're different expecially in the main colours.
-Default ORANGE
-Blue
-Green
Here there are two screenshot about it

You can flash it over your ROM without any kind of wipe... it's a complete ROM but..... it has just two files modified..... not a very important and big change on it
And...... if you want...... Here you can download a "Radio Update" the version is "63.18.55.06SU_6.35.17.03"
..........please note that i've updated the first answer with a lot of information for everybody who came here for his first time..........
Hope You'll like it... there are many different screenshots

You're not using the cronos governor? The more recent schedulers (cronos/villain/smartass) seem to speed up/slow down on demand like the one you're using, but they seem to be quicker to react when I use them.

I don't know exactly what's governor... what's his function, what's the difference about cronos, ondemand, performance... :P ehmmm.... ooopppsss
Default settings, on reboot, are Cronos, 352/614, everytime.
The governor is responsible for telling the processor what speed to run at. You set the min/max, but the governor is the one that changes it within the min/max. Different governors are more battery friendly, like on-demand, which only runs things quickly when you need it. Some keep things running at full speed all the time, like the performance governor.
However all the custom ROM devs make their own, and it's generally the best idea to go with the one they made. These governors are newer, and are capable of running in a battery friendly way without any noticeable drop in performance, giving you the best of both worlds
So Cronos is your best bet on this ROM.

Right this 1.9.4 updates causes a weird white line to come down every time I press the lock button, looks like a film cut. Any reason? How can I get rid?
Also the radio, do you install it before the ROM? After it? Before Gapps?
It's an animation that was introduced in gingerbread - it's supposed to look like an old CRT TV turning off, although it doesn't perform too well on our phones. Go to CM settings, Display settings and disable the screen on and off animations.
It doesn't really matter I don't think, given that the radio is unaffected by any other type file you flash. I would do it after everything else. It's important to remember, as I'm assuming this is your first radio flash, that it won't behave the same as normal flashes. The phone will reboot and then flash the radio, where you'll see an image of an arrow coming out of a box towards a phone on your screen. Also be aware that if you lose power/pull the battery during a radio flash, you could brick your phone. So make sure you're charged up
