Default Undelivered messages

I have had my HTC Hero for a while, and whenever I reboot my phone after it runs out of battery or what not my messages application starts to randomly send text messages that are categorized as undelivered messages but in fact have already been sent to people. So whenever I reboot my phone I send mass text messages throughout the day to people saying the most obscure things that I have already said and is there any way to fix this problem because it just drives me up a wall every time I have to tell people that my phone is going haywire.
