I just bought a HTC Hero 100 from ebay which was locked to the '3' network. Also it did not come supplied with an SD memory card.

I must say I was astonished when I first switched the phone on without a sim card installed because it seems that without a sim card installed I am blocked from accessing any features of the HTC Hero phone, even the camera fuction!. The only screen I get is "NETWORK LOCKED - PLEASE CONTACT CUSTOMER CARE!"

What the hell has the sim card got to do with taking a photograph? Or browsing round the android operating system?

I cannot afford to buy the unlock code for 2 weeks so I was wondering if there is any way I can bypass this ridiculous lock screen which blocks access to all the features of the phone simply because the correct sim card is not present?

I had the same problem, and there's an easy solution: Simply pick up a PAYG sim from 3 - they'll send you one through the post if you use your website, or pop into Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys and buy one for about 2 quid.
