I downloaded it but I can't get it to get a lock on the GPS, never finds my location. Which is weird because Google maps/nav has no problems.

I had a similar problem- the GPS loacates within several buildings surrounding me but I just move the little flag to the exact spot. Also I enabled the Wi-Fi Option and that helped target me even closer

Holding the delete key for long enough will cause it to repeatedly delete, much like that of a keyboard on a computer. This way you don't have to press anything 20 or 30 times!

I was looking into GDE, but the current reviews are showing a lot of FC on the Droid since the last update. I will be holding off until the program gets developed.

ZOOM FX Camera app:
I love my new Droid, but I was quite dejected about it's camera. I have always valued having a good quality camera built in to my phone, just to be able to take at least somewhat decent photos at all times. (My previous phone was a Sony-Ericsson c905).
Go dld the camera "Zoom FX" for your Droid for $1.99. Make sure to spend the time changing all the settings, most importantly changing to autofocus (infinity by default), and turn on simple stabilization @ 0.5 seconds. It is like buying a new camera for your droid for 2 bucks, no joke. Also make sure to dld all the free add on packages, which do amazing things, and there are a ton of them, maybe 20 or more.
It isn't as good as the c905 still, but it is a DRAMATIC improvement.

You probably already know that the updated car finder can now be set when your cars bluetooth turns off, so it automatically sets itself when you park. Very handy, as people who forget where they park will probably forget to set their location. I should know.

Individual SMS Ringtones

This is the reason I tore through pages upon pages of Forums x_x, I found this on another thread but thought Id answer it here for anyone looking. You can download Ringo (for a price) and it will do this for you . If you dont wanna spend any money there is an app called handcent SMS that is suppose to also allow you but there was many comments that said it was laggy and i HATE lag so I didnt even bother downloading it. I hope this helps!

Quickly toggle between Swype and defauly Android keyboard?

Anyone know of an application or widget that will allow me to click on it from the home screen, and switch the keyboard input?

I noticed someone complaining about voice search always going to google even in maps.
If you start your search query with the word "find"
as in "Find US Bank"
It will always result in a map search directly....not a google search.
Also, and this is pretty well known. Starting with "Navigate" will go to navigation automatically, and starting with "Call" will dial your contacts number. If you are concise you won't even have to choose the contact. Say "Call Bob Smith Mobile" and if you only know 1 bob smith with 1 cell phone it will dial with no dialogue.
Now they need to add a "Play music by" command!

In a word or 2, Swype rocks. As does Handcent SMS and I have not noticed a lag. Guess I need to dig deeper to see if it can do individual alerts for each contact. Anyone happen to know how or if it's possible?

To set individual alerts per contact in Handcent, open the app and open a thread with the contact in question. There's a "settings" button on the top right corner of that screen where you can set settings that are unique to that contact.

go to your marketplace, and search "mabilo ringtones". you'll see "Ringtones" by "Mabilo Android Team". It's a free app with a good selection of ringtones (latest and greatest songs) and an option to upload your own.

IDK if this has been answered yet, but if it hasn't (or if it has), you can't customize this menu. it's not a quick launch, instead it is a "most recently used" launch.

Or just use the volume up and down button on the top right side. You can set the volume there and if you scroll it down it will go to Vibrate then silent. One other thing I noticed if you scroll it all the way to silent the alarm clock still goes off in the morning. Very cool as you don't have to keep the volume on and get interrupted in your slumber by a call or notification.

"Editing" FB Contacts

It's extra work but for the folks in Facebook that have no mobile number listed that came over to my Droid, I added them as a contact in Gmail and it syncs them up on the Droid and turns them into a Gmail contact on the Droid which means you can edit the info about them while preserving the other Facebook information (e-mail).
Now if you could download an export of your FB contacts and import that into Gmail it would save all this effort.
What I have not tested yet is if your FB contact that is now a Gmail contact and they update their info on FB if that will sync down to the Gmail contact.
Anyone?

ringtones and notifications
For those of you who want to use your mp3 files as ringtones or notifications...I have a solution! First upload the Sharetones app. Its a great app that allows you to share, creat, and save your mp3 files to use for ringtones, notifications, and alarms. You will be able to save multiple ringtones, create your own, and save them. You won't be limited to just the one you assign through your music and you can assign them to your contacts as well.
Once you have the app, I synced my mp3s from my computer. When you run the app it will show you all of your songs and all ringtones others have already made. You also have the option of making your own from any part of the song you want! Save it and it will ask what you want to use it as; alarm, notification, ringtone... also gives you the option of assigning to a contact. Your songs will be in the list with the preinstalled sounds fof you to use at any time.
I have no affiliation with this app, I just bought a Droid n found a solution to my own problem! I haven't had any problems and it works just as it said!

Droid light when in cradle
I just picked up a Motorola Multimedia Station (docking station) for my Droid and the light is extremely bright. There is a brightness setting that allows you to dim the light, but it's still too light. Does anyone know a way to dim this light even more?
Thanks!

You think the low setting is too bright? It's lower than any alarm clock I've ever seen.

Droid light when in cradle
I know it sounds crazy, but it is too bright on the low setting. It shines into the room too much. I wouldn't mind if I could even turn the light off altogether, and then have it come on when the alarm goes off in the morning.

Have you checked out Brighteriffic, available free in the Market? I downloaded it recently and have only briefly checked it out so far, but it gives you the option to set a low and a regular brightness setting (as long as you are not using the Droid's automatic brightness setting), then put a widget on your home screen allowing you to switch between the two. Not sure if the low setting is low enough, but you could check it out.
I've been using their Timeriffic to control settings at night....you can set it to turn on airplane mode at a set time and on again at a set time, etc.

I've been using Timeriffic (free) to turn certain features off at night and then back on in the morning. Or it can be used to mute the phone and turn on vibrate during work hours, then switch back to ringtone after work hours.

I use "Setting Profiles" (it's the one with the hammer and anvil icon). It's the best I've used and I've tried them all from Night Ringer to Quick Profiles, to Locale, and several others. Setting Profiles lets me tweek everything and you can switch by profiles like work or home (how ever you choose to name it) using the home screen widget. Or you can have it switch by time or even location. It even lets you set additional rules. So say you wanted your phone silent but wanted to let a certain person on your contact list ring through, you can set it to let them. Oh yeah, and you can backup all your settings.
There's a free version and a $2.99 version. I downloaded the free version, but as soon as I realized it was the perfect profiles app I uninstalled and and downloaded the $2.99 version. Well worth the 3 bucks in my opinion.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Now here is an oddity - with both the normal process of turning off Notifications, and with Quick Profiles, no matter what the first message (email or text) still makes sound. After that, it's silent!

That is odd. I used Quick Profiles for a couple months (up until recently when I found the app Setting Profiles) and it never did that to me. Always worked flawless on my Droid.

Don't know if it has been coverd, but when you are texting with the virtual keyboard, hold down the :-) in the lower right, and it pops up more smilies... even better, they are little green android smilies.
