Default [ROM] CM9 Tenderloin nightlies

Looks like we are moving away from CM9 Alphas...

https://twitter.com/#!/cm_tenderloin

Dalingrin posted on Google+ that they probably won't be posting Alpha's unless there's something specific that they need people to test...

As a test I tried downloading and installing today's nightly...

Techerrata Downloads - Downloading update-cm-9.0.0-tenderloin-KANG-20120216-040001-signed.zip

So far... so good! Will drop it on the charger and test more in the morning.

Ah, ya beat me to it. Just read it on Twitter before taking my shower.

Here's the changelog:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#q,status:merged+tenderloin,n,z

You can download it from here:

When will you stop with your work on the Touchpad? will it ever be finished?

Currently the focus is on longer term development. That is, moving the kernel to 3.0+ and moving to the Linux ath6kl kernel driver for wifi. My hope is that the move to the 3.0 kernel will give us working hardware video decoding. In addition, we need to move to a different libaudio solution. Once these are done, I hope to take more of a backseat for the Touchpad and probably move on to another device.

If you are going to install a nightly and are on Alpha .6, do you need to do a full wipe or can you just install over and retain your current apps/settings?

Thanks

Good question. It appears you should only have to format cache and wipe Dalvik cache.

More discussion here:

Make sure you create a backup in recovery before flashing.

I was running a Bricked kernel based on alpha .6 and booted into recovery, created a backup, then booted into CM9 (not the bricked kernel) and deleted the bricked kernel from my boot partition with Root Explorer.

Then I booted into recovery, formatted cache and cleared Dalvik cache and flashed just cm9 (0216). I didn't need to flash gApps since Market worked fine, but I did flash the touch screen driver (#10).

Looks like it wants to reboot when it's idle, o/w very smooth. Maybe I need to buy this.

I'm not getting deep sleep with any of the governors I've tried. You can use cpu spy to see if your luck is better than mine.

BTW, if you check that changelog, there's not much tenderloin code changes there... last one I noticed was in Jan.

I downloaded this directly to TP and runs fine so far. The "clock stopped working" was an annoyance for a few times. Removed it and stop. Rebooted about 3 times earlier in the day. Gonna scour rootzwiki and xda for more info. It's really smooth though. I'm liking the keyboard this time.

XDA says

Not Working:

Hardware Video- Netflix and HD Youtube videos.
Microphone
Camera
Some Market Apks
Titanium Backup At the Moment
Most of the hardware problems from CM7
Gapps intended for CM7/Gingerbread. USE GAPPS ABOVE
USB file transfers use MTP or PTP in Ice Cream Sandwich

Hardware Video, Microphone, Camera, and USB file transfers have been well known for a while now. I thought Dalingrin found a resolution for TiBU but it's possible that it broke again.

Personally I've seen one reboot on my TP since loading the latest nightly. Since then it seems to have settled down and is fairly stable. Haven't run into any insurmountable issues yet... I figure I'll just keep doing what I'm doing until the next nightly is released. And then install that and start over again...

Edit: Apparently I spoke too soon!

Just b/c a new nightly is out, doesn't mean anything for us has changed. Did you see all the devices that are using that depository?

TIBU works for me. I had it set to use system busybox in prefs.

Personally I'm trying new builds to find improvements in battery life. It seems like my TP will do right around 2 days (may 3 if I let it drain all the way) on a charge. My Xoom, on the other hand, will go all week on a single charge.

I had better battery life on Dalingrin's last alpha. I'm not getting deep sleep with the nightly.

Here's a better changelog:

Merged Tenderloin code: Gerrit Code Review

Merged ICS code: Gerrit Code Review

Pending review: Gerrit Code Review

Abandoned: Gerrit Code Review

Nothing's changed in tenderloin since 2/3 but ics code has changed a lot.

I think I'll be installing this build....

EDIT: also included is the option of changing the user agent in the web browser (menu... advanced tab). This means the browser can report it's from an ipad, desktop, android, etc. The advantage of choosing "desktop" would be to avoid the mobile version of many websites.

BTW, this build is pretty good.

I agree....

BUT, I left my TP on all night and no deep sleep. I had some yesterday before updating tho so might be due to clearing caches. I'm charging it now to test again.

There were some reports of SOD's, maybe due to the power saving mode in the new touchscreen drivers. I had my min speed set to 192 and no SOD's (maybe b/c it wasn't sleeping).

FYI...

Looks like you'll soon have 1080p HW acceleration.

Sure it did.... The script that didn't run was to merge the touchscreen and shutdown scripts.

You'll see 1080p when they get it stable.

It's going to be a few days before the h/w acceleration changes in the Alpha 2 build make it into the nightly builds. I'll update this thread when that happens.

The hardware acceleration (smoother video) that was included with CM9 alpha 2 is now included with the nightly builds.

You could make a backup in recovery and try CM9 and restore AOKP if you prefer that.

I'm on MIUI (ICS) right now and that's usually a weekly build (Fridays), unless there's an issue.

It lets you download a rom. You'd still install it via Rom Manager (CWM) or TWRP.

Might want to install from recovery instead of via Rom Manager tho.

I've been having issues with the tablet rebooting a couple seconds after I put it to sleep. Anyone else seen this and know if any of the nightly releases since Alpha 2 address it?

I don't really see anything in the changelog that looks like it fixes the problem.

I will say, though, that the touchscreen is a THOUSAND percent better than it was in Alpha .6. For me, the early alphas were almost unusable because long press events were so hard to generate. Now it works well.

That's an issue I've seen since day one. I think it is better with the nightlies (or seems to settle down after a bit). I think I'm on a nightly around 3/8.

CM9 should have the same or better battery life as CM7, if you don't have an incompatible app that misbehaves.

I've not found any battery app that works well. One thing they want to do is turn off wifi when sleeping, which can cause other problems. (It needs to stay on for now.)

I tried the 3/25 nightly today. It is working great so far. I was having a problem trying to download the Netflix app from the market. Kept getting some kind of error. After flashing 3/25 I was able to get it. Don't know if 3/25 fixed it or just the act of doing a clean install.

Hello everyone new here but not new to cyanogen.... I am actually running classifieds right now..I was running cm7, I didn't goto. Cm9 because of certain things....I have one question for u if your running this nightly... I am so happy about hardware acceleration and hd video..I could care less about the camera but I had become very dependant on my mic. Working...is the much working in this or any version you know of? Typing sucks...talking is so much easier. Function for any reply.

Internal mic does not work yet. Not sure about BT mic, but I doubt that works either.

Eyeballer posted this on twitter yesterday:

The TouchPad is now in official CM9 nightlies!! Great work by the CM team. Updated status of my builds:
I read that this is your new change log: CyanogenMod nightlies changelog for Ace

... but that doesn't jive with the old change log, which I see is still updated.

Anyone install 3/27 nightly? Does shutdown work now? Gerrit Code Review

4.0.4 has dropped so you should start seeing that merged. Trebuchet (stock launcher) has already been updated to 4.0.4.

I installed 0328 a little while ago. What was the problem with shutdown? Mine has always seemed to shut down with the power off selection. At least until I plug in the charger.

If you are on Alpha 2.0, is there any benefit to going to the more recent nightly? I am having no issues except for the random reboot.

I still have random reboots.

The touch screen has improved quite a bit, but you could also flash that separately.

Since installing the 04/23 nightly, I haven't had another reboot. Not to say they're fixed entirely, because it's only been a few days, but I used to get at least one random reboot per day and none since then.

I always get reboots when my TP is sleeping. Thought it might be from restoring apps from TIBU so did a wipe with AOPK and started restoring apps just from Market last night. So far so good, but we'll see tonight.

Right, that's when I used to get reboots as well. Frequently within 5 seconds after hitting the sleep button.

This new build seems to have fixed that. Knock on wood, of course.

Clean install with minimal use of TIBU didn't help much. Still got the reboot during sleep.

I see CM9 for the DroidX had a RC0 build (release candidate). Nice to see it nearing a stable build.

EDIT: Updated a month-old nandroid of CM9 to the latest nightly and it is indeed more stable. Not one reboot.
