Hey guys, I just got my HTC Aria on Christmas, it's my first smartphone so I'm still a noob on how to use it.
I'm only have the 200MB internet so I'm trying to conserve it by just using the WiFi instead of using my 200MB. So what I"ve been doing is that I went and disabled the "Mobile Network" in the beginning. But when I checked today it says that i've used 19MB already and I really have no idea how. I notice that the 3G thing is on, so is that the problem?
Depending on your particular revision level and model (HTC Evo here) try this:
home screen -> Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & networks (or words to that effect) and then see you can uncheck something like "Mobile network" - let us all know if that works, or the right steps along that path for your phone.
19mb can be used up quickly. And yes, if you see the 3g icon at the top, that means your 3g is still on. Try what EarlyMon said, you can also add a widget to do that as well. Long press the home screen, then hit Widget, then Settings, then Mobile network.

I use APNdroid to turn off my Captivate's 3G data connection when I've got Wi-Fi available. It has the added advantage of keeping ATT's grubby paws off my data usage at 0300. They've burned thru appx. 10 MB of my data at a time when I'm in bed asleep, APNdroid put a stop to that crap.
Aria, as with any HTC Sense phone, all have a simpler way to turn the data off.
Hold the Power button long, and a pop up menu comes up. You will find the option to connect and disconnect mobile internet along with silence and power off options.

I'm under the impression that when my wifi is on and I'm connected, the phone automatically uses that connection regardless of whether the 3G is activated and I therefore don't eat into my data plan usage.........no?
I believe that's correct, but forcing 3G off can protect the budget from any glitches, either by the wifi dropping, the phone misbehaving, or the user forgetting.

I just tried this with my new Aria and it works-
It says:
Phone options
Power off
Silent mode
Vibration mode
Airplane mode - Found this is good for playing free games with adds - No adds (or phone calls for that matter)
Mobile network - Click this if it says "Data connection is On"
to verify push the PWR button again and it should say "Data connection is OFF"
Not sure if this works but it's worth a try.
I've also noticed when I'm at home with the WiFi on WiFi has priority. Still new to Android so I may be wrong on all this.
The HTC Aria arrived as AT&T's second Android handset, though many more have come in its wake. The mid-range device packs the full Android experience into a small package with a style that only HTC could achieve. The Aria's 3.2-inch tou... Read More
