Can't remove lock screen code...really?

Hey all, new member here.

I recently purchased a HTC Desire C, and so far I've been quite satisfied with it.

I do have one major problem with it, though, one which I'm hoping one of can help me with.

Thing is, when I'm out in public I like to have the screen lock activated. When I'm at home or similar, then it's not really necessary.

But I simply can't figure out how to disable it. In the manual it only says how to activate it, not how to deactivate it again. HOW do I do it?
