(Using some CAPS for EMPHASIS below, not shouting :-) )

You must do the -> Touch screen -> select widget -> folder organizer item ....etc all again.

During the step AFTER you have ALREADY selected "Folder Organizer Item" and then you are asked to select item, and you have clicked APPS, there, in THAT screen, you want to uncheck that box.

Look at this screenshot (not from my phone, from dev site)
See just below "Choose Items" is a green tick in a box next to "Show text under icon"

UNCHECK that box.

THEN select "CAMERA" and you will have a NEW camera icon without text and you can delete the other one.

Think of it like you cannot change anything once it is on the screen, so all settings must occur before you click final app.

You're nearly there!! (Paid version is easier, can change icon as your create widget instead of in advance)

Post back quick! I'm beat from work!

Welcome to the forums! Hope your enjoying your DHD.

Spent quite a while today messing around with icons and wallpapers. Found out how to use the Multi live wallpaper. Wasn't as obvious. It just said go to Menu>Wallpapers>Live Wallpapers. And then i was clueless. But realised that there was an option called 'Multi live wallpapers' or something like that. It's really ace to have multiple screens but i'm not using them yet because the widgets just cover them up lol.

Here's my newest screen from now on.

Really love the Folder organizer. Its made from win.

Oooh nice screen!! :-)

Yes, F.O. is teh awesome. No one knows how great it is off th bat, because it's a bit funny how to use it, but if you think about it programmatically, it makes sense.

So you have the multi wallpaper sorted....cool!

TA for the BGs, should I resize those appropriately for DHD?

You seem to know your stuff, im a bit lost about how much folder organizer can do and how much other stuff you need to download to change icons?

Does folder organizer include defualt icons for you to choose from or do you need to download another app?

Hiya!

To change icons, all you need is Folder Organizer and whatever icons you want to use. Nothing else.

If you want pretty switches that turn things on and off (like bluetooth, gps, etc), there are lots of switcher apps, but I like switch pro because it is elegant and works perfectly.

(oops sorry I missed this earlier)

I accidently bought Pro Launcher icons. (Pro Launcher Plus isn't available on the market place because google doesn't allow the developers country to sell it on the market yet). Even though i bought that app it's still worth it because you can find all sorts of icons for your phone. And you can also only view those for the apps you have installed. You CAN get them from free but that app just saves time searching them on your computer and then downloading them onto your phone.

Hey kelly. First get Multi Picture Live installed. Then go to Menu>Wallpaper> Live Wallpaper.

Scroll down to the bottom and select Multi picture wallpaper (Something like that) then you can change the parameters there. You can use still images from your SD Card so it doesn't have to be a live wallpaper.

Hmm. Are the other wallpapers on your SD card as well? Dont see why they shouldn't be showing. Are you using the gallery viewer when your selecting your wallpaper?

Lots, really - but (see the "everything root" topic on the original desire section for more details) I personally did to take my screenshots.

You need to check your gallery preferences then, and make sure the other location where you have the wallpapers is checked to show.

Apps -> Gallery -> Menu -> Show/hide albums check what you want to show.

I do not use launcher, but I do know that to change your clock, you need a different clock widget.

TO get a clock ON there, long press, then select widgets, then find the clock you want to use and select.

Maybe if their own instructions aren't so good you could send them yours and suggest they put them on the site? I'd imagine they've written it all from a developer's point of view, it's a pretty easy trap to fall into when writing for people who aren't as as knowledgeable as you on the subject about which you are writing.

The future is now, and I am other newbies!!

Well thanks Anneatkins for all that wonderful information! You are marvellous So you don't need to root the device to do any of this stuff then? I'm a little weary of doing so, as I understand this voids the warranty, and being that this is my first smartphone I think I should get to know how to use it before fiddling with things I shouldn't be fiddling with.

I have to ask, there were so many apps mentioned in this thread, what do they all actually do? Namely, there's Astro, LaunchPro, SwitchPro, Folder Organiser, Widget Locker and Desktop Visualiser, though I'm sure I've missed one or two. Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit new to this

By the way, does anyone know what size a picture should be to be used as the main background image? Obviously for one screen it'd be 480*800px, but it must be wider than that if you have a scrolling image.

No, except to take screenshots but Visionary will temporarily allow you root access, so you can use shoot me to get your screenshots (and other things!)

Astro: File Manager. Can explore, move, rename, cut, paste, organise, etc all the files on your phone and SD card.

LaunchPro: An app launcher that allows you to change icons and other stuff, changes your screens/skin to launch pro style.

Switch Pro: Allows you to make single switches or sets of switches to turn things off and on on your phone, such as GPS, 3G, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode as well as other things like a battery stat icon, etc.

Folder Organizer: Change icons, remove text from icons, place widgets using new icons on screens, label apps so yoiu can make a widget displaying shortcuts to all apps so labled, in a handy "drawer" on your screen, and a bunch more. This is an awesome little app, truly.

Widget Locker: Gives you an 8th screen, a "lockscreen" which is customisiable to include widgets on your lock screen. Hence the name.

Desktop Visualiser: No idea. Sorry.

Desktop visualizer changes icons too. Don't think you can rename though. It's every simple app thats easy to use. Is use folder organiser instead though. It does that and much more as Annet has pointed out

Ah okay, sounds like I want Switch Pro, Folder Organiser and Widget Locker then. Might have a look at Astro as well after all that.

Of course, first I need to figure out what's wrong with the market. But that's a story for a different thread

Anne, is it worth getting the full version of Folder Organiser? There's no difference in the descriptions of the free and paid versions on the market, but I assume the paid one must have something extra in it.

Styxx here's is a small list of the things in the lite and the full version:

Folder Organizer lite

Ad-supported version
Folder Organizer

Full version with advanced features:
hierarchical labels
direct folder editing
manual sort of items in a label
widgets with 5 items in a row

Hope that helps! I myself bought the full version

If you look on this page and the first one. You'll find tons of information provided by Anne. It should be more than enough to get you started!

When buying an app from the market, the only payment option is "Credit Card". Are there no other options for this? Also, will it work with a debit card if I choose this option? I don't actually have a credit card, as I think they're little plastic one-way tickets to unhappiness.

A little off-topic, but I found this today. It seems like the sort of thing Android users would enjoy:

You can use a debit card on the market too. Most of the time a debit card works despite saying Credit Card. Worked for me anyway.

Big thanks to anneatkins.
All you need is Multi picture & Folder Organiser apps, you can make your screens appear as you like without any need for rooting.
Go to mysitemyway.com &/or iconfinder.com for tons of icon designs. no doubt there's many more sites for the same thing.

Of course, a few widgets & switches here & there help (I highly recommend EasySwitch - 12 switches on 1x4 grid, most i've seen).

Bemused that screen shots can only be done on rooted devices, otherwise i'd have mine posted.

Looks like you're right, none of the old QR codes work.

I'm not exactly sure what the stance on posting .apk files for free apps is, but with a quick look around I'm sure you can find one somewhere.

EDIT: Scratch that, the developers have posted an .apk link on their forums. Just download, transfer and install; http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile-g2-g2-modaco-com/320350/10-nov-r12-test-visionary-one-click-root/

Any rooting does. Whether they'll be able to detect a temporary root should it go tits up, & you have to take it back, is another matter.

Oh lord maybe its me and its really early in the morning but I still can't get the multiple wall paper lark to work correctly...lol..

Ok! so besides setting this in live wallpapers, where do I go on from here? Tried to double click home screens, there isn't an app showing for multiple live wallpapers....do I need to set it in gallery of summin? Lol I feel like such a fool... and thanks in advance all!

Edit: ok so by luck I was able to access its settings via the notification icon when u first installed it...so able to art individual customized screens. But how do u normally access the multiple live wallpapers settings? Can't find the app icon in my app tray...can't seem to find it when u go into settings? Where am I going wring here?

Hardware key MENU -> Wallpaper -> Live Wallpapers -> Go/scroll to the MultiPicture Live Wallpaper (it is the last one on mine) and select PREVIEW, then you'll have a SETTINGS key on screen (bottom right), touch SETTINGS, set each screen to what youn want and any other preferences and done.

:-)

Eh, the only REAL difference (for changing icons purposes, though it does a LOT more than that) is being able to just select your icon AS you create the widget (folder organiser item), rather than changing all the icons FIRST (see original folder organiser instructions in this thread) and then going through and creating each widget after having set each icon how you like it.

Basically, shortens the process by a step and a bunch of tapping around.

The other benefit to PAID version - is the support of the dev and for a few hundred quid phone, a few bucks for an app to help the phone be even more awesome is worth it, imho.
