Default Streaming media to DHD from Windows 7 Pc

Anyone know how to set up the DHD to be able to stream media from a Windows 7 PC that is connected to a router?

I don't think one exist. However, I've managed to get Dropbox and Pogoplug to stream video and mp3 across the network to my DHD.

If your router has WiFi, you can use Estrongs File Explorer for access on shares on the home network over WiFi.

Had a collegue at work recommend ES File explorer too. I tried this last night. I think I got my IP address correct, but ES Explorer asks for User name and password. Would this be for Windows 7 or something else. I tried my user name for Windows 7 and this didn't seem to work.

I wonder how easy this will be.

First you should try the easy way:
With Estrongs choose "Search", not "Server".

I have my network share enabled for everyone, so is no need for User/Password

my estrong file explorer finds my laptop but when i try to play a video (avi) for example it says its not correct type. estrong doesn't find my external network hard drive and manually adding it as smb does not work.

i really want to be able to stream video from my home wifi network on my sgs android 2.2. nothing seems to work. the software allshare from samsung also doesn't do the trick. it finds my external network hard drive (freecom network drive xs, with own media server which works on xbox360), but then it doesn't show any files.

so i want to access my external network hard drive without my computer being on and play streaming video from it.

anyone any new ideas??

I had tried this before with no luck, but managed to get it working tonight, simple as pie! (On windows 7 that is).. I'm not sure what your network setup might be, but all my wireless devices go to a network access point which is then connected to the router/switch. All wired devices also connect directly to this too in one form or another. All my PC's work under one home/work group as well.

First, on your PC (Win7), go Control Panel > HomeGroup Settings..

Share the relevant libraries that you want to access, i.e. Pictures/Music/Videos. Most importantly, select "Stream my pictures, music etc.. on my home network".. You can also customise who can see what using the further options..

Once done, you should now be able to access your files through the "Connected Media" tab under your gallery .. (Or I assume any other app which supports the same media service) Remember there's the folder option at the bottom for browsing the folder structure rather than through Genre etc..

As stated below there are some issues with my phone regarding which formats are supported, however from the gallery it just says "the video cannot be played"; but as far as I can tell the items are actually streamed rather than downloaded first

You are correct in that ES file explorer requires the login details of the PC you are trying to connect too; I managed to get this working today using my Windows 7 PC and it accessed fine. Problems started however when I wanted to start streaming different types of media. It seems .avi / .mpeg arent supported but .wmv is (I'm new to android though, so I assume there might be a codec app of sorts that expands on this)

The major problem I had with ES however was that it seems to need to download every item, rather than actually streaming it..

Ok, got the media viewer on the phone to pick up the shared network. For some reason it only picks up my shared videos. Nothing in divx or xvid work - so pointless.

Considering one of the selling points of this phone is DNLA and network sharing, it doesn't seem to work very well.

Got Es file manager to detect network, but have no idea what my user name or password is. From what I know, I don't have a user name or password.

I think this is a peculiarity of Win7.
Set a user name and a password for your Win login and try Estrongs again.

Still not working. I've tried my windows user name, and computer name. Although if it doesn't stream media I won't keep trying.

I got the default media finder working now, but still not working with divx or xvid files. I will search more on this.

Yes, Estrongs doesn't real streaming. It only makes a temporary copy of the video on the SD card and plays it with the stock player.

Want you other formats like divx you have to copy the video manually to the SD card.
For playing you should use RockPlayer.

EDIT: With media finder do you mean the stock app Connected Media?

I got this working using VLC.

Run VLC on my Desktop and connect to it using VLC PLayer on my DHD. I never used VLC before so had to read the manual a couple of times but now works like a dream.

Right my limited knowledge or know how has been defeated by VLC, I can't get this to work wither.

I can't get the phone to find the computer using VLC.

Anything else people maybe able to recommend?

Default Finally got video streaming working on my Desire HD

Hey guys, signed up to post this, as I've been having the same problem as everyone else since I got the phone three days ago.

Anyway, I finally found out a way to stream video from my Windows 7 machine, to my Desire HD!

You need two app, both are free from the market:

VPlayer (for playing the videos)
UPnPlay (for accessing the files in your media library)

All you need to do is make sure 'Automatically allow devices to play my media...' is ticked in Windows Media Player on your PC side.

Fire up UPnPlay on your phone, and tap the bottom left icon (set of draws), tap on your PC on the list, and go to Videos, All videos, press and hold on the file you want to play and hit Play Track, then select VPlayer to play the video. If it brings up an error when you go to All Videos, hit Folders instead, I think it has a hard time if you have a lot of videos like I do.

I've tested this with various videos, some need to buffer (I'm guessing they are ones that need to be converted before playing), but everything I have seems to play fine.

Hope this helps some people still trying to figure it out.
If anyone has any questions etc. I'll try and answer them.

Cheers!
