Exchange ActiveSync With Hotmail
Hi,
Just thought I set this topic up in for Desire HD. Has anyone got hotmail working on their HTC Desire HD using Exchange?
I tried it with the following settings:
email:
username@hotmail.com
server: m.hotmail.com
domain:
password: ********
username:
username@hotmail.com
SSL: Enable
The end message you get when you are creating the account is:
Quote:
Failed to create the account. Please try again later
Edit:
Seems to affect HTC Mail Apps

Edit - 24/12/2010
The update 1.72.405.3 seems to fix the problem, but however it constantly refreshes and also no HTML support.

Hotmail uses POP3, not Exchange Active Sync. Try creating with the following settings (using the POP3 option of course):
Incoming Server: pop3.live.com
Incoming Port: 995
SSL Encryption: yes
Outgoing Server: smtp.live.com
Outgoing port: 25 (use port 587 if the default port is not working)
Authentication: yes
TLS Or SSL: yes

No, microsoft has recently enable Exchange for Hotmail.
There are a couple of problems with it on Android though and Microsoft have said so.
However I know some people on other handsets who has got it working, so just wanted to know what settings they are using.

In fact I've just tried mine and all you need to do is click create POP3 account. Put your hotmail email and password in the automatic setup screen and click next. It sets it up for you.

You are correct. Following a quick Google I've attempted to set mine up and get the same error.
Think I'll stick with POP3

Exchange is the best way as you get to see all of the folders and you don't get a massive unread count but MS don't support Hotmail through Exchange yet.

Not too sure, but there is a Yahoo App... you can try that.

Quick update, it seems it is a problem with the HTC mail app. The Stock mail app from google works (doesn't come included with HTC devices for some reason). It affects Desire, Hero, EVO4G etc...
M$ had full released it on 30th august, but did said that 2.1 won't work, but 2.2 should work.
HTC are aware of the problem but don't know if there will be a fix for it...

It's not perfect, doesn't always seem to sync unless you have it set to push, but it is much much better than POP3.
Would love HTC to sort this out.

Hello, the new HTC 1.72.405.3 update fixes the Mail App and you are now able to connect via Exchange ActiveSync
However the HTC mail app just keeps going around and around and it doesn't stop syncing. Anyone else has this problem

The HTML problem is because of the protocol used. M$ uses a very old exchange server and even the main google mail app doesn't have the support. Apparently Touchdown has all the features but you gotta pay for it.
I seriously doubt this will be fixed until gingerbread.
The HTC Desire HD is the big-screened successor to the HTC Desire, a device that took much of Europe by storm when launched in the spring of 2010. The Desire HD followed during fall of the same year, earning its title from a large 4.3-inch display,... Read More
