Me as well, out of Montreal. Absolutely love the phone. I am a little bit torn on if I will update to Gingerbread with the range of problems being described. Right now my phone works perfect with the only slight complaint being battery life, and even then I get 18 hrs - 24 hrs fairly regularly with moderate use.

I guessing we will be the last or close to the last people to get the gingerbread update so hopefully by then they will have fixed all the bugs.

+1 from Kamloops. Love it so far, getting about 36-48 hours of battery with a fair amount of use.

Just wanted to revive this thread. The gingerbread update was released by Telus a few days ago. I know landovr updated and says he has had zero problems thus far which is good news. Anyone else update?

My DHD is Telus. Though I haven't received the 2.3 update yet. Or at least i dont think i have. Phone says i have Android 2.21

I love the phone. Only downside is the battery. Compared with the new Motorola Atrix which has a 1900mah battery, ours seems rubbish in comparison. But I was with Bell for 6 years and just had enough of them.

Have you used the "check update" function (or whatever it's called) - this is where you tell the phone to look for the update (could be available and you just haven't had notification yet!)

Dialing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (as its number equivilent) also works too and makes it check for an update.

Yup, I was playing with my Telus DHD last night and I was in the About Menu, so I clicked Check Now and lo and behold Gingerbread 2.3.3 was available for download. Funny because the phone is checked off the check for updates. Maybe it would have told me this week.

Anyway, the installation went fine. Probably what I notice first is that I don't notice anything. lol But I'm curious to see if power management is more efficient. I'm also hoping my GPS works better.

On the GPS front, I have read that some people have been having issues... hopefully you'll not be one of them though!!

Yeah go ahead and do it. It takes maybe 30min at most. Use a wifi connection for the download.

Here's one crazy thought.

When I first got the phone, after unplugging the phone from the charger when I'd wake up, after 1hr the battery would be down to 90%. (%10 per hour).

I then checked on USB Debugging, and I think I checked off some options about the phone connecting in the background....and then, after 1hr, I'd have 95% power. So, twice the battery life?

Well, last night I updated to Gingerbread. I plugged the phone in to charge over night as usual. Same morning routine...wake up, unplug the phone. After 1hr, 99% power.

Am I dreaming?

Nope, Gingerbread does give much better battery life (for most anyway).

I had this problem too. I used wifi analyzer from the market to determine the best wireless channel and since I switched to the best channel my phone hasn't done it since.

Hmm, I always see people link to possible replacement batteries, but I never read anecdotal evidence that a replacement battery actually shows better performance. What's your experience with the battery in the link?

I find the replacement battery is just as good as the stock HTC battery.I'm a phone junkie, constantly checking FB,emails, sports scores...etc,with 2 batteries I easily make it through a long day with brightness on full and running a live wallpaper. For 7.50 it's worth it.

How do you charge the battery which isn't in the phone?

yea the guys over at XDA say that no battery is better than the stock. Except maybe the Mugen batteries. The obostore one was tested by one guy as being of lower capacity than the stock one.

I bought the obostore one and i will give a 100% unbiased review of it. I might also buy a 1600mah one since i think that rating is more possible than 1800mah

Oh and battery seems to be improved on gingerbread, but i need to do some more testing. I plugged my phone in to upload photos, so i reset the plug in time. But i was at 90% with about 4 hours of up time. This includes about 40 minutes of screen being on, taking 4 photos, a 5 minute phone call, some texting and a minimal amount of web time. I leave screen on auto brightness almost all the time. Leave wifi on but i have juice defender.

I will run it down completely tomorrow when i am at work and report back on battery life.

I doubt this will be a long term solution unless you plan on buying a new battery cover. It seems very fragile!

After a day when I would normally have about 30% battery left, after 2.3.3 update I had just over 50% battery left.

Wrong! I've been doing it since the DHD was released on Telus with no problems opening and closing the battery cover. It's super easy.

Yeah the battery cover seems too twitchy for me to be wanting to take it on and off.

Well I posted this in another thread but I'll do the same here. I updated my Telus DHD to GB and even with a low screen brightness I am still charging my battery almost twice daily with moderate use. I'm not seeing much of an improvement in anything really.

Any ideas? Maybe wipe and reinstall my apps?

Just buy a replacement battery, very very easy to change. The cover comes off and on easily, you'll get use to it,it's the only solution I found, and it's really not that much of a hassle, takes seconds.

question though. if i charge another battery and keep it with me for emergencies, how long will it stay charged for? and is it bad for the battery if i leave it fully charged in my backpack for weeks?

They stay charged for pretty long time. A few weeks and it'll still be at 100%, most likely.

As for damaging the battery... The optimum way to store a battery is at 40% charge. At 100% it will age a bit quicker. I only vaguely remember reading the figures, but at 40% or 100%, it's still only a small percent of the total battery life lost per year.

I have decided to do a factory reset after the gingerbread update to see if it makes any difference in battery life. Just finished the reset, will let you know if it was worth doing or not.
