just use it as an access point. Setting it up as a repeater is a pain in the a$$ config wise and static channels are required for it to work properly (meaning, the wireless channel & the extention channel - if used - have to be set, rather than leaving it auto which most people do)

You can even leave the SSID name the same, since the way the 802.11 wireless standards work, the device will connect to the source that has the highest signal anyways. If the same ssid is used, and you move closer to the new AP, there'll be an 'error' with connection for a second up until the device does another handshake with the AP tied to the SSID so then it simply becomes a "which signal is stronger". If you're connecting many devices though, have seperate SSID's

No, no, no... haven't made myself clear...

I have a wireless repeater that I've had for ages. Recently I changed ISP (to Orange) and have had a new router from them. I haven't changed the settings on the repeater yet (as I haven't been bothered).

The WIFI seems to work upstairs on my phone, but isn't very good on my laptop. Not really a problem, as I don't use my laptop upstairs anyway!!

oh, lol, I skimmed through the posts, saw 'repeater' and automatically responded. haha.

I try not to use Repeaters in any way, unless its for Industrial applications.

I know but, when I actually got the repeater, we were wanting to use the laptop upstairs and were finding that the signal just wasn't strong enough... my bro had a spare repeater, so gave us it - job done. Just not got round to sorting it since we changed ISP (not had time/need, as we no longer use the laptop upstairs)!

I don't know if there's encountering same issue as mine.. After my phone got the update 2.50.405.2 my GPS can't establish connection though when im not updating the software information i can still use it... though after that update my wifi issue resolved it. But now I observe I can't use my GPS.. Is the other user experience this?

Thanks..

Vodafone branded users were having issues with the GPS, but from what I've read, it's not been affecting unbranded users.

Can you use GPS Status?

The fist time I tried to use my GPS after this update I could not get a fix. Did a reboot and all was well

I had this issue after updating, however I installed GPS Test, which has a option in Settings to "Clear AGPS" and then "Update AGPS".

After this, was connecting inside and outside within 20 seconds.

I've got a branded Desire HD on Vodafone and mine's well and truely not working anymore. Done a factory reset, battery out, reset GPS data & A-GPS assistance...and still nothing. Had it out in the open air for hours...zilch! Bloody annoyed!

is it possible to figure out the build date of the device? maybe by the serial number? I want to see if mine is from an old batch where the GPS is affected by hardware.

I'm unbranded and haven't noticed any change, for better or worse, in the performance of my GPS since the latest upgrade.

There's speculation from about Post 19 in this thread, but nothing concrete.

Even I cleared the cache of A-GPS and download again the data.. can't establish connection... If I will factory reset using the hard reset it will back again to its original setup wherein the setup is like the new since I brought it...?

It will reset it to what it would have been like if you'd bought it with 2.3.3 installed.

If it did that, there was a problem with the update.

That all looks fine, when I said a problem, I meant it was just an issue with the process itself, not the actual updated software.

They say you won't lose anything, but there is no garauntee that every upgrade will go through without a hitch.

Apologies, I had meant to edit my post with a little more info.

oh.

hmm

Ok a question.
If I log into market again with my orignal gmail account I should get my apps back right.
Can I do something similar for contacts. I don't remember syncing them with google

BTW how do you check how many gps satellites you are locked into. Google maps ??

Yeah, if the handset is linked to the initial gmail account, all your apps will download again, same with the contacts.

GPS Status will tell you how many satelites you've locked on to. There may be an option in Google Maps, but GPS Status def will.

Thank you.

Download GPS Status from the market, see how long it takes you to get a decent fix on any satellites. If it does at all.

The Vodafone branded update appeared to break the GPS, it's undetermined what impact it's had on the unbranded release yet. I know some folk have had issues, where as some haven't.

phones connected to 6/6 satellites relatively qucikly, less than half a minute?

although to the bottom left of the compass opposite the number of satellites it says

10 Error(m)?

if that means anything to you, other than that it seems to be working fine.

Like i said the Phones with a Vodafone contract but not sure if the phone is branded?

Your GPS looks fine, I think the 10m thing is the margin of error for calculating your location.

HTC Branded phones will always have 405 in the software number x.xx.405.x.

If you go Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information, and your software number looks like the above, you're unbranded.

Default Vodafone are aware of the GPS problem

Vodafone are aware of the GPS problem but seem impotent to do anything much about it.

the other day I was riding around town and decided to test my GPS. I used GPS status and it was able to pick up 8 satellites (had green indicators). On the screen it said 8/8 (8 fixes and 8 satellites) but my GPS did not lock on. So would this indicate it being software related?

The latest from Vodafone UK:

Desire HD GPS issues following recent udpate - Vodafone eForum

HTC is working on a fix for customers who are experiencing GPS issues following the download of the latest version of software.

As soon as we received this fix we'll put it through our testing process and, once approved, HTC will confirm the roll out timings for customers.

We don't have a timescale for this work at the moment but will update you as soon as we have further news.

just got back from riding around town today and decided to play with the GPS. I loaded google maps and turned on GPS. my position was locked within seconds. I tested the GPS using GPS status and it found and locked onto 12 satellites within seconds (Strong lock). Since my last post i did nothing, but coincidentally the other day i lightly dropped my phone (my foot took most of the impact). Im back in the office now and i am about 3 meters away from the front door but no GPS lock. So now i'm still unsure why the GPS is soo selective as to what days it wants to work. Maybe it is hardware and by me dropping it, it gave the GPS antenna a stronger connection? or did the software somehow upgrade itself? or maybe the region i'm in (southeast asia) has something to do with it.

Hi all,

I am on an unbranded DHD with the latest firmware and have had no GPS at all since the last upgrade, it worked fine before that

I just cleared my AGPS using https://market.android.com/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=en (I presume other test utils do a similar thing)

And now my GPS works perfectly.

Well worth a try!

Default Vodafone/HTC have issues a FOTA to upgrade GPS

Vodafone support announced yesterday that there would be an imminent patch. I looked for it this morning, installed it and GPS is working again. Still not a great GPS, but then it never was, but it's back! Phew!

The software version is now called 2.50.161.3 which is clearly the Vodafone derivative.

I just got update for my unbranded Desire HD to 2.50.707.4 today from 2.37.707.3. I don't see any change or improvement. (No wifi or GPS issues before this.) Perhaps someone can inform the benefits of this new s/w version.

Cheers.
