Hey guys i just got a new HTC Desire hd and iv been told by many ppl to update my software.
When i went to Settings\about phone There is no software update option.
the only thing i see is Network, phone identity, battery, hardware info, software info and legal info.
Please help me out as im quite lost.
Sofware info is
2.3.3
htc sense 3.0
software number is 1.28.401.1
It has an option to check software now, and also for scheduled checks according to the schedule of the server. It is visible even if your software is up to date.

Correct, that's where it should be... I think though, from speaking to Scotty, the Sense 3.0 update hasn't rolled out for the DHD in the USA (why I've asked where the OP is from)

I think the way that custom ROM's work means that you shouldn't see updates (if you do you're best not accepting them, as they can do more harm that good
Hello and welcome to the forums Krazyts - thanks for joining!!
It could be that you are as up to date as you can be... where abouts in the world are you? Who is your network provider? Are you branded/unbranded?
Thanks so much for helping me out guys, i really appreciate it. Im from Karachi, Pakistan and when i bought my phone, the guys at the shop told me it is already up to date. However, some friends having the same phone have told me to update it. There is no option for the software update in the about phone section.
Im just hoping iv not been scammed but it definitely is an htc desire hd i just think the software on it has some issues. is there anyway to check that out?
D-U-R-X Im not totally sure about what you mean when u say branded or unbranded and my mobile network is Telenor but since we dont have 3G in Pakistan (totally bummer) i just use edge occasionally but im always around wifi devices.
And if its any help, when i connect my device through the HTC Sync, the Current System Firmware is goapk_1.28.401.1. This is all gibberish to me though

When you turn your phone on, does it have a screen with your network providers name on it? Does the phone have any pre-installed network related apps? If yes, then your phone would be carrier branded, else it could be unbranded (as if you had bought it direct from HTC).
Currently in work and I only check in sporadically... will try and answer your other questions later!
when i turn it on it just has the htc quality brilliant logo and then the phone starts up. one of my friends suggested that it could be a rom installed which has some kind of bug on it but once again... im lost
Every Sense ROM I have installed has the Software Update page in the settings, even Custom ROM's where it is non-functional. I think it is more likely that it is a carrier modification.
As you are running Sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.3 an official update to Android 2.3.5 is not a big deal really. Actually, I was not to happy about the last update I got in December 2011, and preferred the previous version. It was more resource hungry so I had to cut down on the number of widgets I used, as keeping my previous configuration resulted in my widgets reloading too often.
If you want an update to Android 2.3.5 maybe I could interest you in Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 or if you want to try something very different, how about Ice Cold Sandwich 8.6.1 (Android 4.0.4)

Hi,
I`m an ex HTC owner (DHD), Now have a Galaxy S3, I had the same issue on my 1st GS3 handset (missing update option) it turned out Orange Branded handsets in the UK have this option disabled (no idea why..!!)
I returned my first phone and got an unbranded replacement with no missing options..!!!
maybe this is the case with the phone you have..?

Thanks so much, i guess this could be the reason, i guess il have to take my phone back as well... crap that would mean reinstalling everything and re-setting up all my contacts....
Oh and Congrats no the S3 i hear it truely is made for humans a bit too out of my range for now... plus in my coutnry roaming with an S3 is like inviting death over for a tea party

Where did you buy that if you don't mind me asking? Sense 3.0 didn't appear on the DHD until Android version 2.3.5. 2.3.3 was Sense 2.1 iirc. I wonder if that's a real DHD or a clone?
The software number is also strange, if there's no network logo and you're unbranded, the format would be x.xx.405.x. 1.28.401.1 correlates to the Desire S.
If you download CID Getter from the market, run it and look for [ro.product.model], [ro.product.name] & [ro.product.manufacturer], are they HTC Desire HD, Ace, & HTC?
The HTC Desire HD is the big-screened successor to the HTC Desire, a device that took much of Europe by storm when launched in the spring of 2010. The Desire HD followed during fall of the same year, earning its title from a large 4.3-inch display,... Read More
