Default Factory Reset not working

Hiya

trying to flog my HTC Desire HD. Website gives two ways to do a factory reset - either go to Privacy and choose Factory Reset option (there isn't one) or keep vol down button pressed while turning on (phone simply switches on normally). Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!
Norbert

Try this via the dial pad.... *#*#7780#*#*

It may work but it depends on what version you have installed.

The volume down + power button should work, just need to time it right. I usually hold the vol down then press the power button for 1 second and let go of it.

Can't remember exactly where the tick box is, but there is one called "Fastboot" which I believe, if ticked, means that the second method (powering off completely and then powering on whilst holding the volume down button) would not work... give me a couple of mins to try and find the info out

I think that this is where you need to go:

Menu=>Settings=>Applications=>Fast boot

Press reboot phone in the power menu (hold power button)

As soon as the lights turn off, hold the volume down button.
