Default Help with contact list duplication

Hi there,

Wondered if someone can assist please.

I have just got a Desire S, and like it a lot. However, my contacts are a little messed up. In the 'people' app, i have several duplicated contacts, some showing a link to facebook images with the facbook 'f' next to them, and some just with an image of a sim card (assume these are the contact numbers i imported on the sim). Some contacts here have just numbers, some are just emails (from the facebook data).

Then, when i make a call, again some (a few only) are faces/images from facebook and most are just a sim card picture.

I have tried syncing contacts to facebook (think i did that ok, although there seems to be fb and fb sense for htc) but still have duplicates.

If i delete the sim card ones, is theere a danger that i'l lose a lot of numbers and just be left with facebook emails and no mobile numbers?

Some guidance would be useful please if possible

Thankss

I can't offer a solution to your current problem, but, can only tell what I did and I don't have this problem.

I store no contacts on my SIM. All my contacts are stored as Firstname SecondName.

All my contacts were stored originally in MS Outlook which on gaining an Android device I migrated to a new Google Account (gmail) contacts.

I sync'd the Google Account to the phone and then sync'd with FB, twitter. Skype etc....(although I always used the option to only sync where I have an existing contact)

Assuming that the names of your contacts are structured the same between differing accounts then the phone should be able to link the contacts automatically.

There is a Link contacts option under More of the People application.

I'm wondering if you can use HTC SYnc to get the SIM contacts out of your phone, into MS Outlook or into Google and only then delete them from the SIM and attempt to link together all of the other account types.

Thanks Ben,

Sounds pretty tricky to me, I don't use, or have, MS Outlook, and (as i am sure a lot of people do) have contacts named differently on my sim to what they are on facebook etc. I only set up a google mail account to make it easier in the first place so have no contacts on there either.

Just seems now easier to delete the facebook sync and have blank names on my contact list, but that seems a shame on such a phone that is meant to be easy to set up to handle this.

I will have a play around and see what happens.

Thanks again
D

I had this exact same problem!

I wanted the thumbnail pictures but didnt want to delete my sim card contacts.

This is what I did:

Export all contacts to SD Card (There it will be saved as a list called sim_list etc - this can be imported at a later date if you wish to change your mind. But contacts are safe there)

Then delete appropriate Sim contacts and you are left with the more detailed phone contacts.

Alternatively you can go into the 'view' options on the people menu and untick sim contacts, this means only non-sim contacts will be displayed, which solves the people list problem but doesn't provide pictures on SMS unless you delete the Sim contacts..

Hope this helps/works for you
