Ok, so I know some will find this strange but I like the fact that when I dial a number it plays a tone. Trouble is that my phone has turned the volume down on them and I can't find a setting to fix it. They are not off they are just really quiet. This is not to do with key tones in messages etc because I have them off, does anyone know how to turn dialing tones back up, standard desire s, sim free, thanks,

Menu > Settings > Sound > Volume > and see if increasing Media volume helps.

Thank you for the suggestion, still not changed it though, I have tried everything i can find, really stumped on this one,

Are you using an app (something you may have installed) that could be overriding the Android settings, like a profiles app? I think touch tones (DTMF) are controlled via a 'system volume' setting rather than the 'media volume' setting I suggested earlier. You might want to check your apps to see if any have this setting and try changing it.

It's possible that you might have uninstalled an app that changed the system volume and didn't return the settings to their default volume. You could try installing an app like 'Sound Manager' from Android Market and changing its volume settings to see if that nudges things back. Then, if your touch tones return, you can see if uninstalling it will permanently reset the volume to how it was.

Thanks, i'll give it a go, i can't think of any obvious apps, i mainly use the games and footy apps, i'll let you know. Cheers.

Fixed, it was the system volume that had turned down, used sound manager to sort problem then uninstalled app, works great still, can you not turn th esystem volume up and down without downloading an app?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I'm not aware of any stock app (Android or HTC) that allows you access to the system volume settings.

The only other thing that I can think of which might have an affect is to change the 'Sound profile' settings around from Silent or Vibrate back to Normal and see if that increases the touch tone volume.

Found the problem app, Google navigation, whatever volume level I use in navigation when its closed is what it sets the system volume at, last time I used it I turned the volume down and it stayed down,

Just tried to replicate that on my phone, but it didn't change anything.

However, there seems to be plenty of other people attributing system volume issues to Google Maps/Navigation on their Android phones.

NB On previous versions of the Android OS the system volume could be changed by altering the in-call speaker volume; you had to do it when in a call. I thought I'd read Google stopped that, but it might be worth a try.
