Default Couple of Desire S issues - can anyone help??

Hi all. I have 2 issues with my Desire S that are driving me NUTS and hope you can help;

Firstly, during a call it's really easy for my cheek to accidentally touch the screen and end the call. Is there any way of "locking" the screen during a call to prevent this?

Secondly, when connecting my phone to PC to download pics etc, some photos I deleted from my phone ages ago still appear on the PC. How do I permanently delete pics? I've used the trash bin on the phone and they disappear from Gallery but reappear on my PC when connected!

Many thanks

Regarding your first issue, it could be the proximity sensor - the sensors are situated to the left of the HTC logo - and how you answer the phone.

If you haven't already, try answering the phone before putting it to your ear. If you answer the phone when it's already near your face, then the sensor will not recognise a difference in proximity and the screen won't automatically lock, as it should. This can also happen if the proximity sensored is covered, so if you're using some kind of phone protector that's covering the sensor, then that might be the cause.

If you prefer an app to solve this problem rather than change the way you answer the phone, then an app like Screen Suite Lockscreen should do the trick. It does a number of other things which may be redundant to you and it may not work in quite the way you want. However, some people experiencing the same issue as you say it solves the problem.

On your other issue, try this, Power off your phone > Remove battery for 30 seconds > Replace and power on. Then check if subsequent deleted pictures are actually deleted.

Many thanks for the quick reply notebook. I'll try the proximity thing.

Re pics - just to clarify, deleted images remain deleted on the phone (ie never appear again). It's only when I use the phone as a hard drive connected to a PC that the deleted images reappear on the PC which is weird.?

Are the re-appearing images you see on the PC the thumbnails of the deleted images, not the full size images? I.e. you're looking at the content of your phone's SD card from your computer, and you're seeing the images in the /DCIM/.thumbnails folder.

If this is happening, delete the contents of your phone's .thumbnails folder, including the .thumbdata file.

The phone will repopulate the thumbnails the next time they're required, so that the old ones will be gone. Hopefully, from then on, the database will delete the corresponding thumbnail along with whatever picture you delete via the phone (e.g. through the Gallery app), which is what should happen.
