Default Hi everyone! Newbie here with some questions...

Hi all,

I am a very new HTC Desire (amazing phone) owner not really too familiar with Android, so was wondering if some of you more experienced guys can help me out with a couple of questions.

Firstly I've noticed when browsing my desire will not play any flash video files and a message comes up saying something about I need a 2.2 upgrade? I went into settings - update - and was told there are no new updates so am a little confused by this?

Also the media player has no graphic equaliser which has really surprised me as I thought the Desire was the iphone beater, but maybe I am missing a free app or something to rectify this?

I'd be very grateful for some help, so many thanks in anticipation )

Android 2.1 doesn't support flash fully yet. It will play some things and not others. Android 2.2 has better flash compatability. Android 2.2 is not yet officially available for the HTC desire. It should be soon.

I believe some 3rd party developers are looking at including an EQ in some of their apps, but I don't think (could be wrong) that any have them as yet.

Yeah none that I have seen/used have included and EQ, would be might handy as the base quality on the phone is dire... I would love to shift most of my music onto my Desire as it saves carrying the phone and my Archos, which is a bit bulky, but the sound quality through the Archos is just so much better (and yes I do realise that the sole purpose of the Archos is mulitmedia, but my old phone had decent enough sound for the musics)

Many thanks for the reply. Am I right in thinking that with Android updates the phones will get better and better with more functions etc? I didnt realise this when I got my desire. If it's true this is the best choice i've made in a long time!

You will get increased functionaility and more importantly - bug fixes with each release of the operating system.

However, it ultimately will be up to HTC if they release updates for specific models.

Take the HTC Hero released last summer for example, HTC have decided they will release a 2.1 update for it. But they probably won't release anything after that.

HTC make a lot of phones, so there will be a point where they won't release the latest version of Android for the HTC desire. I'm not sure when this will be (or what version) but it will happen.

There will be other ways to get the latest version of android on your desire though, but it is technical (you have to gain root access to the device and put a custom OS on it), but you may well have to do without the HTC sense user interface. Personally, I will cross that bridge when we come to it. Some developer may be able to port sense over from elsewhere.
