You can reflash your phone to the rom you flashed in the first place, i did it twice before i decided to unlock the phone & apply the update.
It just means you do exactly the same steps as you did when you debranded

so you mean unlock your phone to use any sim card right?
Yes, exactly
I've just debranded mine btw and not run into this issue, but I'm not going to accept the 1.21 update unless installing the HTC generic ROM has not fixed my primary data issues.
You need to buy a sim unlock for £8.99 and then update to the latest firmware. The WiFi problem goes away and you can receive all updates without worrying about being sim locked.
You could flash your phone, after rooting it. But it's a PITA and a sim unlock isn't a bad idea (adds value to your phone anyway)
OK, I have reflashed my Desire using a guide I found online, it is now in the original state it was after I debranded it previous to the OTA update that fooked the WiFi.
I will see about unlocking when I have more petty cash lying around, being a poor student and all haha.
I've debranded, rooted and SIM unlocked my Desire but I'm still running 1.15 - if I accept the OTA update to 1.21 (or further updates), will that 'unroot' the phone? Is unrooting even possible or is it permanent once it's been done?
My wife has a de-branded orange desire, it has also been sim unlocked but the ota upgrade came thru today which she installed and has now lost wi-fi, so I guess the above comment about sim unlock is untrue.
Will I have to downgrade it to previous state or can I find a froyo rom and use that?

My handset is a debranded orange one also unlocked, i did the ota upgrade no problem.
Did you remember to have the goldcard in the phone when you did the ota upgrade?
if you leave the gold card in for the ota upgrade does that stop the wifi being knocked out for certain as i sent my first phone back when that happened
