Default How do I get my contacts in gmail back onto the Desire ?

Hello again.

So Ive been messing with my contacts and exported them to gmail where I edited them.

I now want those contacts back on my phone as google contacts but don't know how to do it.

In the people setting I currently have all my contacts saved as 'phone' but there are some errors. The ones ive edited on gmail have all the errors fixed.

I have no contacts as 'google' in the people setting.

Ive tried syncing with google (with contacts selected) but nothing came through. Could this be because I still had the contacts open in gmail on my laptop ?

I also tried selecting export from gmail which created a CSV (or similar !) file, however this file was only a few bytes in size and when I saved it on the SD card and tried to import in people there was nothing on it ?

So all I want to do is get the correct contacts from gmail onto the people app on the Desire under 'google' contacts.

I feel its something simple that im not doing right

Thanks

When I rooted my desire i accidentally backed up my contacts and restored them as duplicates. They eventually synced to gmail where I merged them. But it didnt sync back to the phone. I had to run the set up wizard where you enter your gmail addy etc and that seemed to do the trick. You could try that

Ive just tried the set up wizard but it already recognises my gmail account so won't let me put in the log in information.

So just to clarify, I exported my contacts from my phone memory to gmail where I tidied them up.

I know want to bring those contacts back to the phone as google contacts but cant figure out how.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

I tried this once already but the file was tiny and after importing from SD my google contacts still showed as 1 (my contact info)

I will try it again and report back.

That won't get them back as google contacts will it though?

If all else fails, factory reset will definitely do it. If you back up your stuff (minus contacts of course) with mybackup free, you will go through the set up wizard that way.

Also, the in built backups could also kick in and help things.

Edit> d'oh, too late. COngrats

If you've edited them in Google on a PC, simply sync your contacts and the changes will show on the handset.

Spent ages sorting it out but forgot that having google contacts syncing reduces the resolution of the contact photos

The blurry pictures pi$$ed me off so much I binned off google contacts and reverted back to having them stored on the phone memory and backed up on SD.

Live and learn.

Its about time there was an official fix for the gmail sync blurry contact pic problem.

If you're on Tmobile, that's why.

Nope Vodafone

Ive read on here that the blurry contact photos issue is due to the fact that when you sync with gmail contacts, gmail re-sizes the photos to a smaller resolution. This same resolution photo is then defaulted as your contact photo on the phone, leading to a blurry image.

I think there is a work around but i really can't be arsed. I only have a gmail account to access the market and push email from my sky account so im not really bothered if my contacts aren't on gmail.
