Default Handcent SMS app/Picture Messages

Any one else had a problem with Handcent and receiving picture messages?

O2 had actually sent me the wrong MMS settings but now I've got the correct ones I can actually send a picture message (before it would just hang) but now Handcent won't allow it to download when sending to myself. I assuem I can send them to other people ok.

Bit of a bummer - the very helpful O2 bloke said he knew it was an issue with handcent?

Hmm - just done a search and it seems to be an issue for quite a few people, whether related to Handcent or not.

Sigh. This phone does try my patience sometimes.

I think its an android bug/issue on general.

Playing with the user agent (set to n95) helped, as had t-mobile somehow adding a dedicated mms apn

I just got my Desire in yesterday. Tested the MMS today and the download keeps failing.

Did you have to call T Mobile and have them put in the correct settings in your phone Aberj6?

Hey Aberj6, thanks for the reply. I live in Seattle, WA and called T-Mobile today and spoke with 2 representatives. Neither could find the Desire in their database to send me the mms settings. I went to T-Mobile Support - Select a Cell Phone or 3G Device | T-Mobile Customer Support and they dont have any HTC phones period..

By the way, I have an unlimited texting plan so I dont have to worry about the extra charges. Thanks though!!

Could you possibly guide me a little further on how to set up the mms settings though?

Thank you SOOOO much for your help nx1977 and aberj6.. I am soo new at the phone though, I cant figure it out still...

When I get into the message settings to put in the APN, I cant figure out where to put the WAP GW IP address. I see the proxy, mms proxy, port, and mmsc slots to fill in but it still hasnt been able to work with me...

I am SOOO sorry but would any one of you be able to guide me on which slot to put the WAP address in?

Thank you sooo much. It is GREATLY appreciated.

Those settings are correct. You need 2 apns. the mobile web one and the gprs MMS one.

Mobile web APN type should be set to default. MMS apn type should be mms.

This should mean when looking at your apns, the mobile web one has the green dot next to it as if selected and the mms one shouldnt even be selectable.

If your issue is just MMS, and you use handcent, i suggest it is an issue with handcent. From experience I know its rubbish and can prevent sending and receiving of MMS in some cases.

Uninstall it and possibly factory reset.

I've had several handsets and been using Handcent for the last few months, all I can say is it's very hit and miss. Sometimes they will send / receive, but others not - all with exactly the same settings (on Orange btw).

I do 'seem' to have more success sending them via the stock app rather than Handcent but it's so random I can't say for sure.

In some cases, handcent prevents the stock app sending and receiving too.

Might want to check that - often that's only referring to sms messages. (I don't have unlimited, but 1600 - but will still be charged for every single mms)

Uninstalled and reset the phone - not factory and still didn't work.

Will Factory reset remove all my apps/settings etc. if so I can live without mms and just use email if required.

Thank you both for the suggestions

to follow on with what this guy said, if your using a custome rom, a lot of them lately have four apns for o2 one is for mobile internet and three of them are mms apns, only one of the mms ones work. You have to delete the other two as they conflict with the correct one

How do you delete them there doesn't appear to be an option to do that?

Mms issues with desire on t-mobile usa

Thank you very much for the link. That was a new one added to the list of try outs but unfortunately, that still did not work.

I have honestly tried about 40 different settings ranging from slight changes to complete changes and none of them have worked out for me.

I have check marked and uncheck marked the 'Enable always-on mobile data' and nothing seems to work. Tried repeatedly testing it in the stock messaging app and the handcent and neither have worked.
Im just a sad person right now...

If ANYONE has any ideas on what I could try out, what to check and what not to check mark, please, Im all ears.

Thank you for everyone for their input. Even though it has yet to work out for me, I sincerely appreciate it.

Forgive me for the completely newb question... but how can I check to find out? If I in to settings, wireless networks, and then mobile networks, I see network mode which asks me if I wantt to use WCDMA only, gsm only, or WCDMA/GSM auto.
Can you please show me how to check for gprs?

Just for the record, here are working settings for O2 PAYG Internet and MMS. You only need one APN with the HTC Desire. This works fine on my unbranded HTC Desire.

Quote:
Name: O2 MOBILE WEB
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: payandgo
Password: password
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 9201
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Authentication type: none
APN type: not set

Allow 30 mins or more for these settings to start working. On the Desire, they work even if there's no green dot beside the APN.

Perhaps ask in the t-mobile section on this forum?

99% of desire owners arent us based, so can't help through experience to give you the right t-mobile US settings you're looking for
