From what i've read/understand, any SIMLOCKED phone when the initial flashing is done (Before 2.2) will become locked to all simcards and you need to buy a sim unlock code. (Please anyone correct me if i'm wrong)

I went ahead and bought an unlock code for my phone anyway JUST incase i needed it.. (However I didnt need it) Bought it from a store on ebay.

Unfortunatly i really don't know how it will affect a Tmobile Branded phone.
And I really dont want to say go for it.. as I really don't know
I only have the VF phone experience. I really wish i could help mate. Sorry.

On a side note.. I had to reset my APN settings for my phone after the update.. might be worth having just incase. (Pay Monthly Peeps)

Stolen from VF website forum
Quote:

Go to Settings > Wireless and Networks
Click on the Mobile networks drop-down menu.
Click on the Access Point Names drop-down menu.

You'll see two APN's if you have an unbranded Desire - and only one APN if you have an official Vodafone Desire.

First, select the Vodafone MMS APN, press the Menu key, and choose "Delete APN". We don't need it, and the phone never uses it anyway.

Next select the Vodafone Post-pay ISP APN, and edit all of the settings so that they read as follows:

Name: Vodafone UK
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: wap
Password: wap
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 212.183.137.12
MMS Port: 8799
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC: 15
Authentication type: <not set>
APN Type: *

Press Menu > Save
Might be handy for some people.

Have you enabled USB Debugging mode mate?
Menu>Settings>Applications>Development>Tick Debugging
(sorry if you have, just was my first thought )

MMC1 I used
I then connected the phone via Charge only, then ran the goldcard tool and then it worked.
Hope that Helps

Hrm, Did you manage to get the HTC Sync installed, Either the new one i linked earlier or the one from the Phone?

In theory, all the CID is, is the Ident of the Memory card. I've just this second tried it under Charge only and Disk drive mode and it gave me my card's CID, maybe try disk drive mode?

The only other things I can suggest is trying a computer and a phone reboot and try again, the HTC drivers might need a kick up the backside

Having followed all the instructions and updated perfectly I've now found a problem I can't seem to solve.

Since flashing the new rom and updating I've been getting a lot of gapps force closes, I've had a look around and it seems to be an issue which can be resolved by playing around with the Gmail and Gtalk apps but since the update Gtalk has gone missing from the apps list but I have been unable to install it from other apks.

I really don't want to have to root, flash and wipe everything since I'd rather avoid rooting if I could.

Yes mate, as the OTA 2.2 has been taken off the air, as it were, the Update.ZIP should in theory give you the OTA offline.

So follow the guide, up to the point of trying the OTA for 2.2, then just use the Update.ZIP from the other guide to hopefully get 2.2

*Am at work atm, so will hopefully be able to pop back on occasionally*

Hi guys, will this work on my desire? it was bought from a Vodafone store on 02/08, my hboot is 0.83, and my phone has all the 360 junk pre loaded. I've tried multiple times, but my handset doesn't seem to be able to go into recovery mode, it just hangs at the HTC splash logo.

Any ideas guys?

Hello Mate,
I don't think it will, all the other posters with the branding update (Which i guess now they are selling the phones with) cannot debrand until a suitable bootloader hack/crack/ is found.

My phone was only 0.80 bootloader when I tried my update, and I did not download the over the air update, and the original guide worked like a dream, granted the OTA for 2.2 was still available when I did it.

i suspect the update.zip file isnt named correctly. If your in win 7/vista, simply name the froyo 2.2 file, just "update". You only need to rename the file update.zip, in winxp etc etc. Try and see.

if your running xp, then you would need to rename the file "update.zip" Ive not used xp in a long time, but the only way i knew about this whole renaming issue, was my server runs 2003, and i renamed the zip/rar`d just "update" in win 7. Looking at the same file from 2003, it shows up as update.zip Do NOT extract the file btw .

You don't need to extract the file, just stick it on the root of your SD Goldcard

(example) J:/update.zip

then try the recovery again

Hope that helps
Failing that, Try downloading the file again and repeat, it could have been a corrupted download.

Is your system software version showing 1.21.405.2?

to be honest, I really cant think what's going wrong here, as Evil Genius stated in post #48 it worked fine for him, as far as i can work out your not doing anything differently.

List of what I did.

1. Made a goldcard (Which i left in the whole time)
2. put phone onto charge only with USB Debugging on
3. run the file from Bully's link.
4. phone rebooted update complete.
5. ran wifi received the 2.2 OTA.

now as the wifi OTA is no longer available, im "guessing" the Update.zip fix is an offline equivalent. If all the previous steps from the OP worked fine then im guessing it should work.

But as i said, unfortunatly (fortunatly for me) i managed to get the OTA update via wifi. so i never had to use the Update.zip method. I really wish i could help mate.

I can confirm that the 2.2 OTA update does *not* appear as available after de-branding an unlocked T-mobile (German) using RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe from [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers

De-branding went fine, no probs with the goldcard, but no OTA update. Tried installing 2.2 manually using update.zip method, but got "signature verification failed" error after selecting update.zip on the sdcard. Guess I'll just have to wait...

Looks like the download link is no longer working for the manual download that Evil Genius posted. Tried with Chrome, FF and Explorer just incase and keeps saying link down.

Does anyone else have another link or could someone upload the file to megaupload or similar.

Just googling it now so if I find it I will post here.

Ahh Right, So you've not yet updated your Vodafone firmware to stock, makes sense now

I gather you've made a goldcard etc?

you need to use this to follow the original posters guide and get the file he states.

except when you get to the point of updating to 2.2 (over wifi) use the update.zip

Techincally you are doing 2 updates. 1 to debrand, 1 to update to Froyo.

Well after updating via this method (thanks to Bully74uk for starting this thread) , i can confirm, if you follow the instructions carefully, everything goes smoothly. Had no issues with getting HTC froyo sense on phone, via the put renamed update.zip to sd card, and load on from there. Only real stressed out moment i had, was when windows (on 7x64) suddenly said it wanted to reboot !! (i assume update htc sync drivers so hboot could load and continue). Restored my data and apps vis my backup pro. All my contacts restored, as were messages, bookmarks, scenes, pretty much everythink. I used my 16 gig card to make a goldcard, and saved what i needed to pc, and moved back over my music and vids after restore. I had no need to input any settings for web,sms , all was good . Speed wise, yes its faster, and ive tested pretty much everythink, no issues thankgod. Real glad i did it in the end, and would not hesitate to do it again Thanks to everyone who assisted me, and feel free if you get stuck to ask away. i retained all what i learnt

Those folders were on my card too mate,

when it came to backing up (As i didnt have anything i didnt mind losing) i just copied the contents of the SD card to a folder on my desktop of my PC. then back when i was done..

Probably no point in restoring just yet, as the 2.2 update blanks it all again anyway afaik.

your sd card, needs to hold the backup you made, the folder is called "rerware"

i had to move this folder back to sd card, as i used my 16 gig card to make a goldcard (copied the data to pc for safety)

Cheers.
No it can't - if you have this on your phone it means you should be rooted. Superuser permissions is like the control app for root access. When an app requests root permissions superuser should pop up asking if you want to allow it. It can be set to remember this preference & if you wish to change a permission at a later date it has a list of your current permissions in the app.

You can get rid of it if you flash a non-root rom, but overall now youve got it I wouldnt try to get rid of it

Now you've debranded HTC will release any OTA's which means 2.2 when they eventually bring it back up I'm not sure how to get rid of the Voda scene, but its identical to the HTC one anyway, afaik.

I'm stuck in limbo now.

Have completed the debranding stage but went to download the file contained within Evil-Genius's link but it is no longer working

Have googled to within an inch of my life but cannot find anything similar.

Does anyone have any ideas or links or even the original file they can upload?

Sorry to be a pest but was going to get Froyo'd up last night but internet was down so was planning on doing it at work today.

Yes, in the same boat. If anyone knows where the 2.2 ROM can be downloaded it would be much appreciated.

Doing a quick google search on the long filename, it came up with.

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip

Not sure if it'll work, but its the same size etc, looks like a mirror, However as it's not from the HTC site, i can't really say it's safe.. it probably is, but.. you know.

The guys over at XDA Devs have found a way to downgrade the HBOOT from the 2.2 OTA update back down to 0.80.

Root is back for all those that accepted the OTA
