Default text notification sound during call

Hi,

Does anyone know how to turn off the text message notification sound whilst on call? Ive never noticed this before my phone updated to the new 2.2 software and my old nokia used to give a litle beep but the desire is a full blown message tone in your ear! Makes me jump everytime. Ive started putting my phone on vibrate to avoid this dreaded noise.

Help would be appreciated.

Yeah, catches me out too. My daughter tells me i've got a message, so the first few times i kept asking the person on the other end of the phone if they could hear her.

I've not heard of an app/setting yet for this.

Handcent SMS has settings to prevent this.

True, one of the few bugs Desire has that annoys the hell out of me...

Is Handcent the only option to fix this? I am reluctant to install third party sms program, since the default one fulfills all my needs...

My Desire doesn't blast the text notification sound IN my ear. It comes out the rear speaker, so it's fairly loud and close to my ear, but not loud enough to really startle me during a call. It would be nice if the phone just did a simple vibrate during calls, but as it is, I don't mind.

I've just swapped to Go SMS. It's actually really good. I tried Handcent & Chomp prior, but Go was lighter, easier and better looking i felt. The popup option is nice, no matter where you are on the phone, you can reply to the incoming message.

Yep, you can change pretty much everything about it. Font size, colour and also use a font package from another app.
