Default Changing service provider

A question for all you smart chaps and chapesses.

I have been fortunate to be able to use my company Vodafone SIM in my unlocked Desire for a few months but recently they have been removing services to save money - most recently MMS. When I first switch my phone on it asked me which provider I was using and set up all the network stuff automatically.

I plan to switch to Giff Gaff, is there an easy way to switch the provider information ( manually or otherwise ) without resetting the phone. I don't really want to lose all the configuration although it might remove all the rubbish I have installed during the first weeks of 'Market Frenzy' and give me back some storage.

Thanks
Hippo

Cool

If I put my other simcard (different provider) in my (unlocked) Desire I only get a question from Google that there are changes in my google account please enter your password.
Everything is working after the changes.
I set up my phone using a company simcard with unlimited data plan.
install barcode reader, scan the printed qrcode to access the wireless network credentials. Check if wifi is working, Change the simcard and setup the rest of the programs and gmail sync etc. using wifi.
If really needed I use my to much costs per mb personal simcard..

On my Desire this will work

Thanks Willem - are you saying the phone will switch between service providers.

You mention WiFi - I'm not worried about that, this is for internet access via GPRS / Edge.

I believe putting a new SIM in the phone will trigger it to ask you to confirm the settings and this should then update the APNs

I did this after rooting the phone.
Because I don't want to type the wifi credentials by hand, First I use a T-Mobile card installing barcode scanner over 3g or hsdpa and scan the wifi credentials. If wifi is ok I switch to KPN (dutch) prepaid. And switch data off. Because now I am connected to my wifi network syncing and installing goes much faster.
On the road, if necessary, I can switch data on but it will cost me. And it is only a backup phone for me.
So sometimes T-Mobile sim and most of the time KPN prepaid sim. For sure KPN and T-Mobile are different providers..

Go here Setting up your HTC device although giffgaff runs on O2 you have to set it up manually in your Desire, once done it works a treat
