What condition are your Desires in & how long have you had them? :)
Hey guys!
I'm just wondering out of interest... how good is the condition of all your Desires and how long have you had them?
Also I have noticed the metal strip on the right of my phone where it meets the plastic part at the bottom is totally flush, however the same thing on the left side of the phone is slightly higher... If I run my finger over the metal part and the plastic just under it, the metal part feels higher up, and this is not the case on the other side. Has anyone else got this?? Or are both sides equally flush?

Ive had my Desire for a year now and its still in pristine condition. No knocks, scratches or blemishes at all. Having a sturdy gel case helped immensely aswell but most importantly I always reserved left jean pocket solely for the phone.. Its a no fly zone for coins or keys lol
As for the metal strip... Both sides of the metal part is equally flush

Since March 2010. No scratches. 4 chunks out of top right hand corner. Never dropped it in a year, then twice in 2 days onto concrete. No case or screen protector, naked, as intended.
Few minor scratches on the screen. Can't see when on.
Several concrete drops have taken place. Some dents in the metal near the power button. The battery door is not fitting quite flush due to the metal casing being slightly warped due to dropping.
Other than the accidental damage, there doesn't seem to be any ware really

Over a year and not a single scratch or dent.
I'm hugely satisfied with the build quality and materials used in Desire.
I guess HTC's business phone building experience was used here.

Thanks for all your replies guys!! I have had mine 8 months and never dropped it however I have also got a tiny mark in the upper left corner on the metal... this was caused from grit Getting under the case and causing that. But I always look after my expensive items and I take very good care of my desire, so other than some things that have happened accidentally and other things that I don't know anything about its in very good Condition.

Pristine condition since August 2010 no scratch and has Zaggs screen film and silicon skin, second one is a second hand off someone that doesn't like Android and it's in good condition as well with some noticeable wear on the battery door (from laying on a table or desk I guess).

Had mine since Oct 10. Not a scratch or a mark on it. Keep it in a HTC TPU skin, had a screen protector on for a few months and no screen protector for a few months. I make sure it doesn't go into a pocket with coins or keys etc.

Since August 2010, so 9 months.
Absolutely immaculate. No scratches or dents anywhere to be seen.
Gel case and screen protector.
Dropped plenty of times, onto hard floors and even kicked it full force at a door once (accidentally).
All in all, I'm happy.
(Although, I'm annoyed as I couldn't sell it like this, because I popped out the lens cover on the back, and the original charger lead doesn't work, so I couldn't say like new , even though it is ).

Had my Desire for 10 months and it's still in perfect condition. I put it in a gel case like williamj1 and not used a screen protector. The INSIDE of the phone has been flashed, partitioned and changed beyond all recognition

Been dropped a couple of times, once face down onto hard floor. Couple of scratces on the plastic bottom corners and a couple of marks on the metal surround. Camera cover scratched to buggery and replaced with sapphire glass. Screen immaculate.
Although I'm a clumsy get and have dropped it a few times, I am always careful to only put in a pocket on its own - no keys/coins.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one, from the moment I picked it up, this phone felt like a well engineered and well built piece of kit. Only the lens cover has failed to live up to that.
Although I've seen quite a few posts from people complaining about build quality. Makes you wonder if they had to hurriedly get extra manufacturing resource online when they realised how popular it was, and that's where the more shoddy stuff comes from.

Had mine over a year, one large chunk missing from bottom near back button, few minor dings all round perfect screen tho.
used to have a hard case on it, but promised myself that after 1 year of my 18 month contract i would bare all for the last 6 months.
surprising how skinny it feels now
always had screen protector on it from day dot, and always would with any device...
anyone know of an outer case replacement service at all?

Mine is also modded and flashed beyond recognition lol. I'm somewhat annoyed as I have ALWAYS had a tpu case and screen protector since the day I got it in October 2010, I have also never dropped it, yet I still have some marks on it and some of the metal on the phone is not flush with other materials such as the plastic. But oh well, I look after it well and never put it in the same pocket as anything else. What cases are you all using??

That's interesting actually as I feel my Desires build quality is not as good as my friends Desire and not as good as other peoples Desires on this forum. I got it in October 2010 but it was purchased before then, I just got it in October 2010
I am using a gel case i found on Amazon. This cover fits very snuggly around the phone and I got it for £1.95 plus shipping cost think it totalled up to £4. Highly recommend it!

Thanks GingaB - I might get one.. because the reason the metal on my Desire is marked when I haven't even dropped it is because grit gets under my TPU case and scratches it, well it has and I have 3 marks on it.
I don't use a case and I've dropped it on concrete/pavement - (the black-tar-type pavement) once and I got a tiny chip. But that was all. It measures less than half a millimetre. But I treat this phone like crap sometimes, (just in general everyday usage)
I generally tend to "lob"/throw it only my desk. Not hard, but I sort of aim it for books/something soft and well it doesn't always hit every time.
When I get bored, it's a bad habit, but I also just randomly start pressing all the buttons rapidly.
And well my desire, Still looks more or less brand new, including the button presses (despite that little chip)]
I’ve had mine for just over a year now. Condition is immaculate except for the surface of the Silver HTC logo on the rear looking a little “worn” but the letters aren’t peeling off yet.
The phone is always kept in either the HTC slip case or a silicone cover. The screen has no protector and is still as new. I really think you would have to be very careless to mark the screen - but I guess accidents do happen and phones get inadvertently dropped.
Which brings me to my main bug bear - I really miss not having the ability to attach a lanyard to the Desire. Both my previous Son Ericssons had lanyard eyes. It is so damn convenient to have it in your top shirt pocket with the added security of a lanyard and it makes it nigh on impossible to drop.

I agree with that. My previous Sony Ericsson K850i had a lanyard eye and I always used it, so I do also miss that

Truly an incredible phone. (bar apps storage)
Lol that made me laugh, I also have that habit - I start pressing the menu key and messing around with all the buttons when I'm like sitting on the bus or something :L
Had it since April 2010, slight scratch on the left button (the search one to be exact). Bar that pristine as it's lived in it's pouch with a screen protector on it. Cold do with a new battery cover as it's a tad grubby but I'm sure I could give it a good clean

Absolutely no marks, blemishes etc on the phone. Maybe a couple of tiny hairline scratches on the screen, but it's sometimes hard to tell if that's actually what it is or if it's finger prints. Noting major anyway.
I think that we can deduce one thing from this thread. Boyy, did the Desire have absolutely impeccable build quality! (Bare-in-mind I'm one of the people who hasn't suffered from dust in their screen. )

Had mine since end of April 2010 - Kept in a Gel case, with a Zagg on the screen. Also slipped in a little pouch when in my pocket. Still in pristine condition.
The build quality seems even better than my 6 day old Desire S.
I dropped mine a few days back, and the metal thingy came up a bit as well. I removed the backplate to see what was under it, and after seeing that it had a clip I pushed it down.
I've had mine for about 6 months now, and I love this thing.
Only screen protector for me.

The only drawback from rooting is that occasionally you need to take your baby out of it's protective shell and expose it to the outside world! I make sure I'm over nice soft carpet whenever I need to change SD cards or pull the battery

Had mine for 14 months. I've found that the back button no longer works as responsively as it did, it sometimes needs several presses to react. Cosmetically, everything is almost as new apart from the camera cover which I've replaced with a piece of glass.
Had gel case and screen protector... phone is pristine except for hairline scratch on metal surrounding camera.
Had first minor drop the other day, about 2ft onto hard carpet. Was in Gel case and no damage. Phew. Had since May 2010 and I plan on keeping it another year, so hopefully it will survive.
Wow. You guys are so caring! I just use a screen cover and treat it normally. I suppose I've been extremely lucky to only drop it once and pick up one tiny scratch. Apart from that, I quick wipe down with a sponge would leave it looking more or less brand new.
