Default mobile internet - what do the different letters mean?

Sometimes there's an E, sometimes an H and sometimes a G. What do they each mean?

G = 2G
E = Edge (think 2.5G)
3G I'll let you guess
H = HSDPA (high-speed download packet access) 3.5G - also labeled as 3G+ in some phone releases (Orange f'rinstance).

That's them in order of speed, low to high.

Where are you seeing these? And do you mean that they are coloured Orange, or that you are using an Orange branded phone?
