I don't know how much this matters but there is no profile for "Desire" on an official HTC site but there is a profile for "Bravo" and "Legend" and "NexusOne".
There are other U.S. only phones that don't seem to have profiles on this site, like the Diamond and Touch HD, but the Bravo/Desire specs are euro and all HTC euro phones seem to have profiles.
Conclusion: Bravo is still HTC's internal codename for the device and how the device identifies it self in MMS.

My guess is that the Desire is a US version of the Bravo, and will be released after the Bravo. The Desire's profile page exists and seems to look like HTC put a placeholder in there. Maybe that profile is in the works, and doesn't exist yet, but will soon?
