Agreed.

I have read SGS3 will be coming with a 720p screen - you could cut your eyes on that sharpness!

I had no idea the S was rocking 720p, although I've been reading the screen is very nice. I guess I've been too busy keeping tabs on the new HTC phones / SGS3 to read about the Xperia S. I've still got 5 months of my existing contract left =/.
Also, Ty, been a guide long? I've only just noticed! Congrats!

Looks removable to me. Other specs look sweet too.

Same here, hope they stay. Looks like a micro sim slot as well, they all seem to be going that way.

Just a complete weeks and all will be revealed. I think the general consensus is that the "leaked" videos are old(ish) prototypes in a generic housing. So its still rather vague to make any assumptions at the minute.

I just wish the ascend wasn't so far away. With the SGS3 just around the corner, it would make waiting less painful.

I was offered a One X as an early upgrade, my contract finishes next month (3UK) but CPW do better 3 deals than 3 stores do so I'm waiting. I'd thought of waiting even longer, to see what the SGS3 had to offer, but how long do you wait? By that time, there would probably something else to make the decision even harder!
My wife just doesn't understand!!

My contract ran out a couple of days ago, so I'm in the same boat.

I know people say that if you wait for something better, you'll always be waiting because there is always something better coming along, but in this case it's different. We have a date for the SIII unveiling which isn't too far away, and the Ascend D Quad has already been demoed and is definitely coming, supposedly in July, and that is definitely a quad core.

It is just annoying that the One X is the only quad core available, i.e. the only next gen flagship phone. Sony has recently released its Xperia S with 720p display which due to that screen spec, NFC, and 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor is assumed to be its flagship. But quad core is around the corner for flagship phones.

THAT is why it is worth waiting a bit longer at this particular lull part of the release cycle.

Having said that, I played with a One X in CPW yesterday, and it does look nice. But the screen on the xperia S was the best I've seen. It has the highest pixel density of them all, even outdoing Apple's Retina display; nothing is finer. Awesome how they cram 720p into 4.3 inches. That's why I would rather wait to see the pixel density of the SIII, which would depend on screen size, and whether it has a removable battery and microSD; or wait for the Ascend D Quad which I hear has both and a 4.5" display.

To my mind, the One X's 4.7 inch display is a bit too large.

I might get a giff gaff sim card to tide me over until the new quads are available.

Oh, and the Ascend D Quad is apparently going to be cheap! That was the greatest thing about getting the Desire two years ago: it was cheaper than the iPhone 3GS while being more awesome.

Basically, if you hold off on the best phone, thinking something better will come along, you're a nutter.

But if you jump to a handset when you KNOW something better has already been announced, you're a nutter

So that's why I feel like a nutter almost all the time, but not entirely sure why. It's basically a continuum of reasons (the being a nutter part is a given)

No lag whatsoever with the One X. The Xperia S has an awesome screen, but the bezel is quite large for my taste.

Also it does not have ICS yet. Only gingerbread, once again, I would like to have the latest software on my phone asap. (One of the reasons I bought the Desire, the Froyo update from HTC was very quick)

I would suggest waiting for the SGS3 to be announced and the release date to be announced for that as well.

If it is after July as well, the One X is seriously tempting me.

Just my 0.02.

I did think it must of been a dodgy phone or something, but first impressions and that.

I want ICS!
But it's not like it's a big deal when you really think about it.

I thought about waiting, till i tried the one x.
Made up my mind pretty quick after that as i am sold on the sense overlay, have tried a few others but sense knocks the other overlays into a cocked hat.
Also helped with phones 4u paying my early upgrade fee & giving me freebies as well.
There are games on the market that only play on nvidia chips they are visually stunning too, these only play on the tegra3 chip phones & some of the older phones with tegra2 chips.

As I said, its just my personal opinion lol

My brother got the One X, and it is blisteringly fast. Also, the new software update apparently vastly improved battery life.

I like the forced Hardware Acceleration present there. I also like a lot of other things that come with ICS and especially the ones that come with sense.

I don't think they have according to a post on xda but the battery life has improved vastly i am getting 39 hours a throw out of my phone, that's making it drain quickly to make sure i get it on charge over night.
I like to make sure i don't run out of power during the third day.

I bought a desire oem battery about 18 months ago. I heard they were better quality than the packaged one. I ran it twice and it seemed worse. I've since learned about calibration so I should dig it out. This battery feels a bit old

I've been casually looking for an original battery recently - too many stories of 3rd-party ones not having the claimed capacity.

Unfortunately the places that have them in stock (and who I believe might actually be selling what they claim) seem to be a lot more expensive than those that don't. Not critical yet, but it's at the point where I'd be happy to pay a little to regain some capacity.

Well I have caved in and finally ugraded my beloved desire for a shiney new one x that arrives on wednesday.

I originally spoke to t-mobile and they quoted me 32 per month for the free handset or keep my original contract 300 mins, unlimited text and 3gb internet for 15.81 per month and pay 260 for the handset, bit pricey i thought.

So I contacted chitter chatter today and spoke with one of there advisors and asked for the best price for the handset keeping my existing contract and the first offer was 169.99 so i barted asked if that was the very very best deal he could do if i was to buy it today and settled on a price of 149.99 keeping my existing contract. Over the next 24 months total contract will work out at 149.99 + 24 x 15.81 = 530 or 22.05 per month im more than happy with that. Plus I can sell my desire for 60 - 70.

Just thought I would let you guys know that there are good deals to be had on this phone.

I was more a lurker than a poster on this forum but I must say whenever I did have a problem when I decided to root the support you guys gave was first class.

Thanks for all your help guys and no doubt I will have a question or 2 when i need to revert my phone back to stock before i punt it.

Anoniemouse, I was interested to see that Phones4U bought you out of your contract. Do you mind me asking how much it was? I am looking at their deals on the Galaxy Note but have 3 months (67) left on my Virgin contract so was thinking of seeing if they would buy it out. I'll have to leave Virgin anyway as they won't be doing the Note. Did you ask P4U directly or did they offer? I could go through Quidco or TCB but am new to that and I have done 1 transaction with each and both have failed to track so don't want to rely on that.

It came to 80.76 & that was 5 months before my contract ended but with orange i could have upgraded in 2 months for free.
They offered to do the earlier upgrade & pay the fee, they also threw in some freebies

I'm getting itchy feet now, still got a few months left but really WANT the ascend!
Still the Desire does everything I throw at though, so there really is no rush lol!

Thanks, anoniemouse. Tried P4U today but they weren't up for paying my contract off. To be fair, the contract I was after was for 21.50 and a free Note so I wasn't very hopeful. Still, no harm in asking!

Galaxy s3 letdown?

http://phandroid.com/2012/04/25/samsung-officially-confirms-exynos-4-quad-for-their-next-generation-galaxy/

So exynos quad core, 32nm based on cortex a9, not far off the current tegra3 specs.

So how come the Qualcomm s4 can best the tegra 3 in some benchmarks, even though its only dual core?... well because the a9 architecture is ollllld!

So with ARM announcing the cortex a15 architecture with quad core and with how comparable it is to the s4, I can't help thinking they're sticking a dinosaur in this thing. These ARM 15 CPUs will almost double the performance of a 9....

I think I'm out.

Sure, the a15 will best what's in the ascend d quad too, but at least its not ARM based so I'm not knowingly buying known outdated tech.

Guh, not the end of the world but I expected better from the Samsung team on its next "flagship phone". It probably won't affect me too much, I just want the best

I'm currently with T-mobile on the 25 per month contract with unlimited data, on my Desire and my upgrade option has just came up.

I like the Desire but I keep having to remove Apps due to the lack of memory. A big disappointment I had with the Desire was how quickly they released the HD after the standard one and then dropped the Desire off the upgrade route.

I have just spoken to T-mobile about a new phone and they will offer the One S for 110 and the One X for 180, which I'm not rushing to take up.

T-mobile seem very keen to sell an older phone free though and tried to talk me into one of them instead, telling me that I can download a software update for them. Personally I cannot see the point in getting a new phone that comes with an old OS and means that by 24 months it will really be out of date.

Looking at the new One phones though they don't for me tick all the boxes. I don't need a super thin phone I would rather have a thicker phone with a 2000mAH battery that lasts over 24 hours, and if you want to remove the memory card then give us 32gb of storage instead. How hard can that be?
