Got my One X (white) upgrade today. I love it, the screen is one of the best ive seen on a phone. basically im delighted with it and would recommend. Deliberatey loaded up loads of apps to see if i could generate a slow down. Didnt happen.

Is nobody considering the SGS3? Or are we all just sat tight for the next 2 days? I'm looking forward to it and still think it's up there to being my next phone.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Sammy have in store on Thursday.
After dismissing the 1X, I'm now torn between the GS3, and the ascend. Then I'll make my decision.
If the Ascend wont be released for months, and the GS3 very soon, and the specs are decent, I may opt for the S3.

Well, the SIII certainly ticked most of my boxes! I was extremely surprised to see both removable battery and external SD. Didn't really expect either, to be honest.

I can't wait to see the full reviews!

The Ascend D Quad XL needs to get out on the market really soon, or risk being left in the dust. It has a lot going for it, but to have the development ecosystem to be really interesting, it needs to get itself out there pretty damn immediately!

I agree, it's definitely a consideration now. However, I'm not keen on the huge screen size and the pentile pixel array. Ascend D Quad looks more ideal now with IPS LCD which will be very sharp.

I think I'm sold! It looks like a very good piece of tech and will probably do as well as its predecessors. I'm looking forward to a hands on review from its fan base.

Unless the Ascend is launched on or around the 29th, they've lost a future customer.
The GS3 is everything I want from a phone.
I don't know why the ascend is taking so long. The official advert for it has been out for weeks and the specs where announced at the MWC months ago. A fantastic phone risks getting left behind unless Huawei get their asses in gear.

SG3 also has Wolfson DAC inside (apparently confirmed by supercurio) - could make it a winner for me. Glad I have plenty of time to wait and see what the Ascend brings before deciding.

I just hope Vodafone can do a good deal on the GS3. I'm getting sick of the wife moaning that I wont be able to afford a next gen phone.

It's looking like the Sammy for me. Giffgaff payback comes in June so it's perfect timing Wonder what the cost will be without contract?

So what are people thinking now as a replacement, now that Samsung have shown their hand?

Well, the storage capabilities are undoubtedly astounding. You can start with 64GB internal memory and then expand with a 64GB SDXC card taking you upto 128GB. Pretty much blows everything else away.

The battery is a very good size, especially for the slim form factor of the phone. Once you disable that camera-watching-your-eyes feature, it should last for ages. Oh, and its removable.

This phone is definitely going to have a huge and active developer community, which is something we've all become accustomed to with the Desire and would want to maintain.

The very quick camera is comparable to the One X, with burst and instant shutter.

All very good, undoubtedly. But it's freaking huge for my little hands used to the desire. The form factor of the Ascend D Quad is far more appealing to me.

And then there is the pentile display on the SIII. I don't know why they did that. The screen spoiled the phone for me. I may be exaggerating, but I can't help thinking that if people complain now that they can see the poor pentile quality on the Galaxy Nexus, then this is going to be even worse because they are maintaining the 720p resolution but making it bigger - meaning bigger pixels, or larger spaces between pixels. Don't people realize that bigger is better only if there are more pixels?

Now I don't know anymore. I guess I would have to see the two phones next to each other - the SIII and the Ascend D Quad - in order to decide.

Not too excited about the s3. Sure it has removable battery and SD slot, but it looks so dull. Wonder if Android Police are onto something -

I've ordered a new battery for my Desire, as I don't expect to retire it just yet, but have started taking interest in what's coming (which is a bad sign).

The S3 looks like a nice alternative to the One X - about the same width, I suspect the X has the better screen but removable battery and sd slot trump that. The Ascend D Quad should have a sharper screen and slightly more friendly size, and I'm still guessing it'll be cheaper. But the proof is always in the execution rather than the specs, so an waiting to see the real things first...

All I can say is I am dropping onto a monthly "Simplicity" contract for now. I will then see what teh ascend d quad has to offer and make a decision then.

I'll be making a call then. Already told me they should be able to do a good deal.
I'm fed up with waiting for the Ascend now.

I'm happy to wait for the ascend. I love getting the latest and greatest tech and I am usually impatient. That said, its possible the ascend will make the One x and SGS 3 look like black plastic moulded pieces of turd so to avoid my pocket smelling, I'd prefer to wait.

It may be that pocket turd is indeed better. I'd just hate to fill it first and find out later I was too impatient.

I'm holding out to see what the Ascend has to offer.

Looks good and sounds like it'll be the powerhouse I want but want to make sure and see what the build quality feels like.

I'm fairly happy waiting for the Ascend too.

The biggest issue right now, though, is that my Desire is overheating (yet again) and consequently rebooting/freezing at least once a day. So off for a new mainboard, for the third time, before my two years are up...

PVT1 sucks!

That is really unlucky! Mine is also PVT1, and so far has had no problems...

...and if it's going to do that, I'd appreciate it if it waited until July (out of warranty then, so would have to upgrade ).

I don't think the Ascend or S3 are going to be bad phones, they both look promising. I've been out of contract since last Oct but nothing has interested me until the S3 came along. It could have been a more difficult choice had they both been released at the same time but I think more people are going to opt for the Samsung as it got there first. Still I see the Ascend building up quite a following as well. At least there are now some choices as I was getting a little worried when the only option seemed to be a One X with a sealed battery and no sd.

Just been giving the Ascend one last going over, and after comparing the two, I'm afraid the GS3 trumps it in a number of departments that are very important to me.

So I think the choice has finally been made. Sad to think I'll be leaving this awesome forum, and group of people in a few weeks.

Would you mind sharing those decisive differences? Just interested how your reasoning goes, as my mind is far from made up.

Of course.

For me Theres three main reasons.
1. Screen size. Looking forward to a screen thats a nice big size. 4.8"sounds like a sweet size.

2. Internal memory. 8 gig is pants compared to the 32 gig you can hey in the S3. Won't need an sd card for a while.
Finally battery.
The S3 tops the ascend by quite a bit..... Apart from the XL.

I would love to see some footage of games playing on the S3 though.

Yes its funny how people differ. These are reasons for me NOT to get the SGS3.

1) as much as I would like a huuuuge screen, I am not very tall and my fingers are relative. Much over 4.3" would be too hard for me to manage. Sure its 5mm from 4.3 to 4.5, but its 7.5mm to 4.8" Thats a step too far for me.

2) I already have a memory card. I don't want to pay the premium prices for NAND that I won't need. I can take my media out and put things on it a number of ways that are better than USB 2.0, including a direct interface onto my motherboard

3) The battery isn't as big as the XL's. Huawei have invented voodoo-like battery saving technology too.

4) I'll see 4 SGS3's on the bus to my 1 ascend

5) The Exynos 1.4 CPU is based on ancient ARM A9 architecture. I cant even imagine it being better than the 1.5 in the One X. The US SGS3 with dual code S4 will probably be better than the Exynos

It all just seems a bit "too little, too late". I think the One X probably will have the bigger share of the Market out of the 3. Perhaps not? Who knows. There is just nothing that calls me to the SGS3.

Thanks Dan. I'm torn again now. I forgot the mutts nuts processor the ascend will have.

I just can't stand much more of this waiting. I'll admit the S3 is going to be as common as rain in the uk. I was all set a few hours ago.

Arse....... LOL

Aww sorry. That wasn't my intention. And don't forget with the ascend, the proof is in the pudding and not before. the sgs3 is a safe bet. Even if its not as fast as a one x, its better.

But because of this you can bet there will be a large developer community for the phone.

I like the obscure and different so will wait for the ascend and then decide, and if I can wait long enough.. Happy to stick with my Desire dGB for now.

I'm in quite a good position as I've got another 4-5 months before I upgrade. Both phones should be pretty well established by then and I can have a good look at both them as well as in depth reviews. Also the dev community! But I know I'm leaning towards the SGS3! Who knows.

Ah, in 5 month's time you'll be saying "hmm, should I go for X or wait for the Nexus Whatever?"

I know what you mean, but I hope this won't be the case.... Even though Jellybean may be round the corner then!

That's exactly what I did! My contract ran out last October but I didn't want to buy a phone mid cycle
