I've just read on one of the many vines of grapes that the Samsung GS3 is launched next month.
So thats the two main phones, that and the One X out in Time for my upgrade.
Have to do a very careful comparison.

Rooted HTC Desire running dGB Custom ROM, Probably the best ROM out there. 65MB HBOOT.
If I helped you, remember to hit THANKS. Manners cost nothing.
Xperia s was released too. Apparently its rooted now
Didn't take long
Like the 720p in 4.3" screen, but it also has a fixed battery (though at least 32GB storage, unlike the One S - damn you HTC ). Camera samples on phonearena weren't bad - good detail, though over-processed (but phones not challenging SLRs yet isn't news ). Wait until I see one in the flesh.
I've decided that the best way of selling an HTC One X to me is to make me play with the Galaxy Note for a while! I tried out a Galaxy Nexus and a Sensation XL today, and although there's only a couple of mm difference between them the GNex felt manageable to me after I'd been using the XL
Still got 2 month left here. Dual core although it sounds easily enough, just.pales next to quad though
Said that 2min ago to the guy in white Rose.
Noticed two things when I was playing with the Xperia S.
Menu button when the camera was open did nothing the first 4 times I pressed it, on the 5th or 6th the camera menu finally opened.
Also... It stuttered while opening the camera at one point.
Not filling me full of hope.
Maybe it's because it was only 10% battery left? Which soon dropped to 5 in no time.
Hmmm.
I'm currently looking at a few as I can upgrade from April. My possibles are the Xperia S, the HTC One X, the Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Samsung Note.
Saw the Note in the flesh yesterday and liked it a lot, but it does seem a bit too big if I'm honest, so that is probably my fourth choice.
I like the HTC One X as I do like my Desire, and I confess I've no plans to root or flash my next phone (rooted my Desire, tried a custom ROM, didn't like it, went back to Sense) so the fixed battery doesn't really bother me, and I've no intention of putting music or videos on my phone so the storage space is fine. It does look a bit "meh" though, design-wise, and I want to read some reviews of it.
As for the Sony, the two best phones I've ever had were Sony Ericsson handsets (a K800 and a C905) so that one is calling out to me, and as well as looking quite smart I've read a couple of great reviews of it. The fact that it is dual core doesn't really bother me as I use my phone for calls, texts, and bits of e.g. browsing and Twitter, so I won't be using it for games or media.
Finally, the Galaxy S3 is the one I'm really looking forward to seeing, so hopefully we'll get a glimpse of that one before long.
Ultimately it will boil down to two key things for me: do I like the look of it when I see it for real, and how much will it cost to upgrade.

Do you mean tried an aosp Rom? Plenty of sense custom roms.
I'll definitely be rooting. Stock kernels leak efficiency as custom kernels so easily show.
SUroot, you said the Xperia S has been rooted already? How is it done? Also, its not out till tomorrow so how is it rooted?
Unless it's already out elsewhere and/or people rooted the dev ones?
Hmmm, i wonder.
Oh btw the guy in phones4U said the HTC one series might be out around April or May, though at a push end of this month because they are racing against LG to deliver the first quad core phone.
He says that is based on "reliable" rumors.
But.. It's just rumors. He could be talking rubbish, i don't know.

Storage was pants, lack of it, it was slow, faster and bigger cards were expensive.
It was using Linux so that was bad for me, even using it for just browsing the net it was painfully slow.
I put XP on it, not much better.
I'm looking forward to the SGS3 specs. Although I feel it will share the same downfalls of no expandable memory and I dare say no accessible battery. I've also heard TouchWiz not being as robust and damaged screens in pockets for the SGS2.
I'm still weighing up all my options I guess.

well they dont like people modding too much, they only started to unlock the bootloader after people were threatening to boycot their products.
If you leave it unlocked but make a device that cant do a battery pull when it hangs. it scares people from making that jump as you cant return it to warranty if its stuck. i suppose you could leave it powered on for 48hrs till it drains it self flat
Odd. Theres a good youtube video somewhere where they drop the SGS2 and the iphone4, face down from various heights and teh SGS2 came out much better
I've seen the same video too which left me perplexed with my friends tales of his work colleague. They're meant to be quite sturdy despite them being very thin and light.
Is it just me, or is all this talk about dual core/quad core overlooking something? Surely it depends on what you plan to do with your phone?
For example: If you're into heavy gaming or perhaps video editing then yes I can see the advantages of having multiple cores, but I'd rather use my PC for that. On the other hand if you're like me and just use your phone for calls, texts and surfing the web, then it's not going to make that much difference really.
My desire is only a single core and does everything I ask of it with ease. I certainly have no complaints in the speed department.
For me, a new phone should be stable, have expandable memory, good battery life and have the probability of a good dev community.
I was looking at the HTC one x, the only thing putting me off is no sd card slot. Nice large internal memory though but looking at the Lg optimus 4x HD this has 16gb internal with an sd card slot able to use 64gb cards, looks the better option to me

The HTC Desire is one of the latest high end phone by HTC bringing a huge 3.7" inch high quality AMOLED screen for crystal clear viewing, powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and runs on, you guessed it, Android.
