I'm really pissed off with the sd battery thing. Id definitely have swooped up a one x. Now? Who knows. May also have to look at the Sammy..... might have to clad it with some clever metal case. Hope it doesn't look like an iphone

I've taken the plunge and ordered an Xperia S. I hope I don't live to regret it.

I guess I'll be doing some research on the Rooting forum, to work out how to return my Desire to stock, ready for Ebay!

I'm having issues on what provider to use as went from Vodafone to giffgaff but have found that you pay peanuts you really do get monkeys cos giffgaff are appalling!

I've found them ok. Site has been a bit flaky at times but network has stood up. It's definitely changed the game for me and I won't be going back on contract for the foreseeable future. One thing's for sure, I won't be going back to Vodafone after the nightmares I had with them.

This is just a personal experience as I know others are getting on fine with giffgaff.

My main issue is that I keep losing my connection to the Google servers ie my signal icons keep turning white. Have checked all apn settings and not that. Tried a different ROM, kernal radio etc and not that. Unrooted back to stock and not that.

Have posted on the forum and got about 100 replies telling me to do what I already stated I'd tried in my OP. Sent numerous messages to giffgaff and not received one reply.

Personally think it must be down to the area I live but it is strange because I'm getting a good strong constant H signal. Also ordered a new SIM and doing same on that one.

To top off my giffgaff experience it took me 5 days to top up a goodybag because the site was having issues. From reading the forum seems like this is a common issue.

As I said this maybe just me having a bad experience but not having a good time :-)

Rumour mill running overtime again for the SGS 3.

Claimed Samsung Galaxy S3 picture hints at March 22nd release | T3

4.8" Screen even bigger than the Xperia S.
As for the Xperia S, i have had a bit of a play with the other half's.
Screen is clear and responsive. Apps download very quickly from the market, though this could be because there was nowt on it.
Battery life seems pretty good. Still about 70% at the end of the day, though she doesnt really sync with anything so not a real test.
Hope to have a better play at the weekend.

Try an o2 payg sim. If it does the same, its network and most likely, geographic

wtf? It's supposed to be a phone not a mini tablet. The Desire is a good size, I'm really not getting this whole 'mines bigger than yours' thing.

One thing the iPhone has right, if you ask me.

I am somewhat in agreeance with this. I think the HTC Desire has a perfectly good size screen as I have sausage fingers and I can use it with one hand, but not without difficulty at times. I feel I may be hindered by bigger plus I often think about night outs etc.
However, saying that, I do like big screens especially when they are bright and vibrant. I don't think I'd like a screen bigger than the Galaxy Nexus (4.65" I believe). Each to their own I guess.

Why not let the consumer decide what they want a device to be?

Well definitely cant stay on O2 as they cannot give more than 1GB per month. After 1GB it reduces to 64-100kbps.

Cant go to CPW as they've got jack in the way of handsets. They dont even have the ones I don't think I want.

Giff Gaff would mean sticking with my current handset and never being able to afford a top of the line handset (which I NEED)...

I looked on buymobilesonline.Com
Found my xperia s for 26 p/m then put my details into the p4u site regarding an upgrade.
Received a call the next day from a great chap called Geoff.

He could only offer me 28.50p/m as stated on their site.
When I told him I could get it for 26 p/m things changed.

The original contract for 26 was something like 750mb net, 200 minutes and unlimited texts, which is actually 3000.
He put me on hold, came back a minute later and said "i can't beat the 26p/m, but I can get you 600 min, 1gb of net and unlimited texts for 28.50."
Well, told him I don't need all that extra so I'll go get it online.
After been on hold for another moment he said, well, I can't change that offer, but I can give you a cheque for a couple of pounds i think it was. (the 2.50 id be paying extra by using p4u by 24 months)

Worked out ok to me, getting more and paying less.
+ 50 pounds for referring my girlfriend too.
Not bad.

I wouldn't commit myself to 3 personally.. Everytime I hear people talk about it, it's always negative. Just puts me off.

Saying that, I heard pretty naff things about T-Mobile and I would happily recommend them. Weird, eh? And I only went for T-Mobile due to the 3Gb allowance (600 minuts and 500 texts (unlimited with my "flexible booster")) for 30/month. I thought that was very fair.

I will stick with T-Mobile if they can guarantee me the same tarrif - but they wont be able to

Xs with 3 was 35 p/m, that is what I was quoted in store.

Worries me that I know nobody on 3 though.

The signal map looks good but I too don't know.anyone on 3 and would need to find one.first

33 on 3, unlimited data, 500 minutes. 28 with 100 minutes which is probably all I need but paying 100 for handset only save 20 over 2 yrs.

Have you looked at mobiles.co.uk? I got my Desire through them, and was happy with the deal. It also came unlocked (no carrier bloat) so it got OTA updates quickly. Pretty sure you will root it anyway though!

Did one of the redemption deals where you send in a copy of your bill. Just set up the reminders on google calender, downloaded the appropriate bill and emailed it in at the right time. Got cheques back no issue.

They have the Xperia S on multiple deals and networks. Using the 3 network as an example, they have it 35pm with unlimited data (same as quoted above), but if you factor in the 8 months free redemption deal it comes out at 23.33pm over the course of the contract.

Reviews of Xperia S have been mixed though. I'm going to try and hold out longer....

Its just an example. I have 2 months to go (11th May) before my Contract money is going down the drain. If I have to drop to rolling month simplicity on O2 until something worthy is available, then so be it.

O2 looks good round my area, but actually it is pretty naff, usually 2 or 3 signal bars even though the map is listed as excellent.

Yes they're all a bit pinch-of-salt. Thats why I need someones experience of 3 in Leeds.

I will not stay with O2 as 1GB data is ridiculous for me. I dont want to be using 3G watchdog... I looked at all the networks (except tmob who I know dont work too well at work) and no one except 3 did over 1GB

I do believe we just figured out what you need to do.
You looked about for what people think about their customer service?

For people who are concerned about the lack of a memory card slot for the Xperia S, you may want to read this. its not a perfect solution by any means, but it could be handy.

It's NOT likely to be particularly convenient when you're out and about, although it might be useful if you need to get data from another memory card (e.g. a digital camera) using a card reader - as long as it can be powered via the USB port. I could, for example, access photos from my DSLR and upload them to Dropbox via the phone without having to copy anything to the phone first.

I bought one here;

GENUINE NOKIA USB OTG CA-157 CABLE ADAPTER FOR N8 C6-01: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

It cost me 1.79 with free postage and turned up in two days (it's sent by Amazon so if you ordered early in the day there's no reason why it wouldn't arrive the next day). You could barely buy half a pint of lager for 1.79!

I am only mentioning the above link as it is the one I personally got, there are plenty of other people selling them - some original Nokia ones, some Samsung and some copies. I went with Nokia as I had one with the N8 ages ago (and wish I'd not lost it). I have no affiliation, but can confirm that I got the cable I bought (some comments/reviews suggest they got the wrong thing but that wasn't the case for me).

I have connected a USB flash drive to the phone and it immediately detected it, and it now shows as another storage device. Alternatively, you could add a wireless dongle to attach a keyboard or mouse, or possibly even a USB keyboard or mouse directly. In other words, no need for a LiveDock. (Apologies to those who knew the LiveDock was just a stand with a USB on-the-go cable incorporated within it if that sounds patronising)

For the price, I'd recommend everyone with this phone (or any other Xperia model from 2011) gets the cable. In fact, it would have been good if Sony had considered making its own cable and including it in the box! The only downside is you can't charge the phone while you're using an accessory (hence the need for a LiveDock), unless someone knows of a cable that has a branch coming off to connect a PSU?

I've just finished my 24 month Contract with Orange and have moved to GiffGaff whilst I wait for hands-on reviews of the One-x. Initially I had planned to move back to Orange as a new customer to get the best deals with the new handset but I'm now having second thoughts as I am impressed with Giff Gaff apart from yesterdays outage. It may not be perfect but it is saving me a fortune.

Do you live out on the sticks? I'm. Sure I heard them bragging about a 95%+ coverage.

Near a city centre.
The site says coverage is excellent, but when I was with them in used to lose signal all the time.
My mam is with em and usually has 2-3 bars.

I live in Birmingham and we have no 3G signal here on O2. 2G is fine.
I am on 3 and the signal and speed is fine - no issues at all. Getting 3GB a month for 10, sim only.

Difficult to get hold of, when you finally do get to through you need a translator to have a conversation. In the end we gave up and went to the shop.

Well, i've had Phones4U on the phone a few days ago as i'm due my upgrade since last week, before they had the chance to offer me a Fruit based phone i told them i was after the HTC or Sammy, they said they would call back when they had pricing/stocking info etc, and that they would be able to better any "shop" deal if i was to do the normal in and out of shop with new phone.
They now have contracts up on site, and looks like if i stay with Orange i can get it online for 36 with 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 1gb data....and HD media link, just got to wait and see if they will offer a lower price tariff, and see if i can get some Beats earbuds thrown in if they are not shipping with any.
Or can i wait for the Sammy.................that is the burning question at the minute
I like my Desire, i like the way it all works, so the One X would be my weapon of choice, is the Sammy a world apart?............can i wait til the summer when i could have a nice new shiny toy in a few weeks?......

I have exactly the same issue. I can upgrade on the 22nd next month. Just in time for the 1X.
I love the specs, but like most others, the fixed battery is a concern. But I've always been a fan of sammys hardware. I read that the GS3 will have an micro arc oxydation case like the 1S. This I feel is a better case than the polycarbonate of the 1X.

I think I'm going to wait till the official specs of the GS3 are revealed before I upgrade.

Saw an Xperia S on Ebay for 401.65 Including postage.

Worked out with Giff Gaff 10 Goody bag + 16 handset (based on 401.65 over 24 months) = 26pm Vs the 3 UK of 33pm. I'd be able to stay on O2 and have a top of the range handset whilst saving 168 over 2 years.

If Only I could get 400 to buy a handset. Not that I particularly want an Xperia S, too many short comings... Just using it as an example.

My Fiance wants a physical keyboard to replace her Hero. I dont think she could go to blackberry after Android. Looking at the Moto Droid pro from Verizon as it also supports GSM...

could you use a Verizon phone in the UK? I thought Verizon was a US network.

Looking at some other deals, Dial a phone are doing 12 month contract on the One X, 500mb data, 300 mins, and unlimited texts @ 36/month & 110 for the phone, that'll do for me, just got to convince the Phones 4 U people to match it.

Edit, just looked at the deal on DAP site........and it's with the media link thingy free as well.

In general you can't use Verizon phones in the UK, as Verizon use the US CDMA standard which doesn't exist in many places outside North America, and nowhere in Europe.

However, the Droid Pro is unusual in that it supports CDMA, GSM and UMTS in a single handset. So this one is the exception to the rule .

Now whether UK networks have roaming agreements that will let you use it to the full I don't know, but technically this phone can do it.

If you look at the frequencies, it has 900, 1800 and 2100. Read a post about someone who bought one to use in UK (read a few actually) so assume it has a SIM card slot.

But in answer to the question, yes it works fully in the UK (im not stupid enough to overlook these things you know? ) but a milestone 2 would be my preference for her.

Oh yeah, I know

Actually I was thinking the other way round, whether you'd be able to use it on a CDMA network in the States without a Verizon account. But what you say about a SIM slot does vaguely ring bells with something I've read somewhere...

I'm only guessing, but as CDMA have no sim, the device ID (SID?) Must be added / allowed and associated with an account to work.

my contract with Orange runs out on 7th April so I can upgrade any time now, the trouble is I want to lower my monthly payments but still would like a new phone as my Desire is definitely startring to get clunky plus buttons are not working properly. I must admit the Nexus is really appealing as I think/hope it will get firmware updates quicker than say the SGS2 will. For ease, I'd like to try and just get a good deal from Orange but looks like they don't do the Nexus so I'm going to have to shop around and Orange's signal has gone crap lately. So far I've found a good deal on O2, 21 per month, 100 mins, 500 texts, 500gb data all of which suit me. Or do i just go giffgaff and buy the handset as we've cleared our credit card? I dunno!!
