Default HTC not on Orange UK????

Orange announced that the HTC Desire will appear on there networks at the MWC, as part of their Signiture phones. When I spoke to Orange about when it will appear on the network i got told the following:-
"We are aware of the press announcement of the HTC desire but the phone has got to undergo tests on the network which means it is not gaurenteed to come to Orange".
So it looks like it is dependent on the testing before it will come on to the network.
The guy I spoke to at Orange said he was not hopeful for it either.
Then I got offered the alternative of a Dext or why not look at getting an IPhone!

I would guess they are just saying that so they can push another phone on to you now rather than wait for the Desire. While it probably is dependant on testing, I doubt the company would make an official press release and then not go ahead with it, when every other carrier is gong to sell it

I think most major networks will get it and so chances are it will go to Orange but if it doesn't then it will be on most other networks.

I gave notice on my Orange contract on Friday and they told me the Desire would definitely be out on April 16th. T-Mobile will supposedly have it on the March 26th.

Just can't decide whether to wait the 3 weeks or not

It would depend on who has better signal in your area as its worth waiting a bit if T-Mo UK has bad signal near you.

Too true although T-Mobile's data allowance is alot better. I spend 95% of my time in urban areas around Manchester so should be fine

Indeed.

Thats the main reason that I am with T-Mobile as their data allowance is the best out of all the networks.

I ditched Orange after 12 years and am much happier on T-mobile.

The only place I dont get signal is in the supermarket, but then I couldnt get an Orange signal after moving despite being almost on top of their mast!

Default desire

Howdy peeps, i too have been an orange customer for several years but i must say how dissappointed i am lately with the lack of decent handsets, i got the hero but sent it back and was set on the milestone, however i was told by orange staff that this is unavailable on orange even tho its in stock via independant retailers on orange network, sooo its time for a change and over to t-mobile i am going with some good contract deals for the desire, ive ordered it already, free handset, 30 a mnth for 18mnths, 400 mins, ultd txt and internet.... cant wait now!!!!

After contacting Orange about the lack of information and being told confusing information I got the following reply.

I apologise for any confusion which has arisen surrounding the availability
of the HTC Desire on Orange, as I can certainly see why you have found the
information which is available to be inconclusive. Whilst we are aware that
externally, it has been announced that the device will be available on Orange
in April 2010, internally no information regarding the launch of the device
has been made available to Orange's employees at this time.

This means that currently neither Orange's Sales Team, or any other Team,
including the Executive Office, can confirm whether the device will be
launched, or if so, when this will be. If it was possible to provide you with
any more definite information, I assure you that it would be included in this
email, however as I have mentioned above, it is simply not available.

Orange's website has a section which offers information about phones that are
'coming soon' and although there is currently no mention of the HTC Desire at
the moment, I would recommend that you check this periodically for further
information. The 'coming soon' section can be accessed via the following
link:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/coming-soon-phones.

I apologise that it has not been possible to provide the information you have
been seeking on this occasion, however I trust that the above information
will be of assistance to you.

I am on O2 and got fed up with them not announcing anything....they don't even have a coming soon section on their website.

Wanted a Desire so was looking at TMob & Vodafone.....
Vodafone won't list on their normal retail site (only business) so I have preordered it on Vodafone through 3rd party website.

Both T-Mobile and Orange usually brand their phones. However, if T-Mobile brand it anything like the G1 there will be no more than a start-up screen, a couple of icons and bookmarks which are easily deleted.

T-mobile's branding for the hero consisted of a bootscreen, and an Icon for web and walk with some browser bookmarks. As far as I could tell that was it

Orange on the other hand remove anything they dont want you to have (read they cant get revenue from you from).

Dont they still block VOIP apps on most devices such as Nokias?

I think the branding on the Desire with T-mobile will be pretty minimal; I'm basing this on the factor they are selling it under the HTC name this time, whereas the Hero was renamed to "T-mobile G2 Touch". I reckon it's a pretty good bet the standard HTC firmware will work.

Of course, if it really matters then wait it out until the first units reach customer's hands!

Orange is not a good deal with unlimited internet, that's the reason I went to T-Mobile for unlimited internet up to 3Gb FUP. T-Mobile save 120 over 24 months @ 10 x 24 compare to Orange at 360 @ 15 x 24 (not including unlimited internet).

If you've got the money upfront then it's a little cheaper via T-mobile direct:
129 for phone, 300 mins, 300 txt, unltd web (3GB), 18 months @ 20 a month + free booster (eg. unltd txts).

10 a month saving for 18 months = 180, therefore 51 cheaper overall!
Quidco and TopCashback also offer around 35 (or you can get 20-30 discount by ordering by phone with a little persuasion).

(Seems I'm pimping T-mob! Wish I was on commission (laughs). Truth is they just seem to be offering the best deals at the mo., so recommend anyone in the market for the Desire to fully check their deals first. Although they might not be the best deal in every case, they seem to be in most!).
