Default Network connectivity problem

Hello – newbie here.
I’m having trouble with my HTC desire. It was originally on the Orange network and after the 2 year contract was up I took a Three sim card (after unlocking the phone).
Everything was fine for about 2 weeks and then I started to lose the network for a couple of hours a day. A re-boot fixed this. Then all of a sudden, no network at all.
I went to a 3 store and we tried a different sim card and selecting 3 manually but the same thing happened – a message just comes up which says the sim card doesn’t allow a connection to the network. I phoned Orange and asked if it had been blacklisted by mistake, the answer was no.
I then did a factory re-set and everything worked fine for about 10 hours – then I lost 3G and then I lost the network entirely.
Is it new-phone time? Or is there a software glitch that needs correcting? It’s really annoying because I have looked after this phone for 2 years – not a mark on it – and now it’s useless!

Thanks for any help

How are you activating the net? 3rd party widget?
Look at your apn names, see if anything changed them.

APNs are unchanged and were working before.

No widget used.

Complete loss of all signal (2G as well), although the phone does pick up four networks (but wont connect).

How did you unlock it?
Does it work OK back on the Orange sim (or someone else's if you no longer have one)

If the APNs are unchanged are they not Orange APNs ? Don't you need to swap over to 3 APNs so you're accessing via 3's servers not Orange's ? I imagine the SIM has probably been blocked by Orange (as is their right, it's not their SIM).
