I enjoy photography and meddling in photo-shop, i was wondering if i was to design my own wallpaper what size is best?
i have seen sizing 640x480, but what the best size for the desire? my pictures are high resolution anyway but want to get the best out of them and is jpeg and acceptable file for wallpapers or is it a specific file?

Reason: edit title
is it me but when i choose photo in the wallpaper option as that where my home made wallpapers seemed to have saved seems the larger files(1280x1024) the phone insists on cropping them, now i have no problem resizing the images to fit as cropping ruins the wallpaper i made, i am just double checking this will be best thing to do.
yeah i have just resized them all, i had modified the size to the larger pixel count as i thought the phone would auto resize i had originally sized them 960x800 should have left alone
Ok I am doing something wrong its still making m crop the image for wallpaper even with the sizing smaller than suggested, I cannot get the crop box to select the whole picture, I know its me missing something but cannot see where I am going wrong,Sorry guys
Hey guys, I just tried this and too got the cropping issue. BUT I think I've figured it out.
960 x 800 are the correct dimensions but make sue that it's 960 wide by 800 high. Not the otherway around.
Looking at the phone I'm sure, like me, you figured "well it's clearly taller than it is wider.."
But in actual fact the wallpaper spans across all of the homescreens and so that's why it needs to be wider than it is tall.
I've just put up with the cropping and it spanning across all homescreens. At least we get different homescreens! I have got my main homescreen perfect for my image and just put up with the movement between different homescreens.
Sorry if this is obvious; but everyone knows you can stretch the crop box? By default it always chooses a crop smaller than the image but try stretching it out

Yeah, just grab the bottom middle of the crop box and pull down.
Hello, my first time here. Am trying to design my first wallpaper (used 960x800). I found the advice posted here to be very helpful. Thanks! Do any of you experience 'stretching of the image' once you set it as a wallpaper and view it on the homepage?
I'm trying to design my own wallpaper for the HTC One S and I am not having very much luck finding out how to do this. Can anyone point me into the right direction? I am good at photoshop, however this phone has got me frazzled!
The HTC Desire is one of the latest high end phone by HTC bringing a huge 3.7" inch high quality AMOLED screen for crystal clear viewing, powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and runs on, you guessed it, Android.
