Default Crazy audio issue when using external speakers/earphones

Hi everyone
I have a HTC Desire HD, and I've been happy with it until a week ago. Suddenly I got this crazy audio behavior - the symptoms are:
  • When playing music using earphones, vocals are almost impossible to hear, but the music plays on normally
  • FM radio seems to have no antenna reception (still using earphones)
  • Speaking on phone using earphones results in scratchy/noisy communication

When I e.g. unplug the earphones everything seems to work normally again (normal music, phone,... sessions) - I tried several earphones and external loudspeakers - same result. I also tried cleaning up the mini-jack thoroughly.
I guess it has to do with the mini-jack or some output-thingy - anyone experienced similar behavior and found a solution?

Thanks in advance
