AS far as I recall you need to just store them in any folder on the SD card. I store mine under a folder called icons within the media folder

You then need to use FolderOrganizer to change Icon but you also need ASTRO (free app)

When changing icon you get a window appear and one option is Android Image Gallery. Select and press OK and then choose ASTRO. Then go to the folder where you store the icons and choose the icon you want to assign. Job done

Same issue I had. The icons have a large amount of transparent space around them. Need to open them up into Photoshop (or something similar) and crop the image (I did it to 72x72) to remove the blank space around the image

All good after that

I used GIMP (free to download).

Edit the Icons through this, I highlighted them with the highlighting tool, scaled them to 72x72 then cropped them transparent background to size and saved as a png file.

Give me a shout if you are trying it and need a hand, I just got it by fumbling about a bit.

How do some people have "custom" icons as their bottom row of icons?

Eg. Where the "All Programs" "Phone" and "Add Widget" icons are by default?

Is this only available to those who have rooted?

If you mean like on my screenies (have a look on the previous page) then it's because I have LauncherPro installed.

LauncherPro Beta - Android app on AppBrain

It's an alternative to Sense.

Cheers lads. I've seen Launcher Pro, but haven't actually used it yet. Like you Doad, I don't fancy rooting just yet, but am intrigued by all the different options.

LauncherPro is well worth a look bud, I was reluctant to install it at first as I was liking Sense but I wouldn't go back now.

You can choose what goes on your bar at the bottom and pick how many screens you want (up to 7) amongst a lot of other things.

It's easy enough to switch back if you don't like it as well.

Thanks, mate. I could have to check that out.

Is it simply a case of uninstalling it if you don't like it and everything returns to normal?

Yeah, once you install it it will give you the option to use this or Sense. If you choose Pro and click to use as default, everything will run through this.

If you get fed up of it you can get an app called home switcher and switch back to Sense and run the phone through that (Sure there is an easier way through the settings but can't remember).

If you want it uninstalled, do it through the Market as per.

Don't worry, you won't be stuck on it.

For those that are using Beautiful Widgets for weather, does it only report the current weather in your location like the default HTC one, or does it give you the day's forecast? Given that apparently the HTC one is only able to show you the current conditions, on days like today, it would be nice for me to have known this morning that it was going to rain in the afternoon so I could've grabbed an umbrella.

Now, using FolderOrganizer, lets say you want a shortcut, go to the shortcut tab, hit meny, "New shortcut", add the one you want.

Then, tap and hold on the new shortcut, chose "Change icon", then "Android Image Gallery" then "Astro". Find your "My Icons" folder, and click on the desired Icon/image you want.

And there you have it, custom Icon form a website, or chosen image.

Can you do this with lite version of FolderOrganizer, or do you need the full paid for version?

Still just shows the current for today and predicted for the coming days. If you want a more complete weather forecast then Weatherbug (on Market) is a good one. Gives a full forecast for the day and also about a week ahead. Been pretty accurate in the past couple of weeks I've been using it.

Just more customisation possible but at the end of the day it's all personal preference. Some prefer it, some prefer Sense, some prefer Helix, some prefer ADW etc

Running Froyo or a MOD Rom pertaining to have Froyo as part of it? If the former then I think everyone on here would like to know how you've got a Desire with genuine Froyo on it

It's FroYo, Paul @ MoDaCo has a ROM running on the Desire

I added the black top bar as the white looks rubbish on the Desire but other than that it's stock Android bar a few widgets

OK well last I saw on MoDaCo and XDA were ROMS caked apparently from Froyo but not actually full Froyo. Anyway, if it's working for you completely then fair play to you

It's pretty much full, camcorder doesn't work but other than that it's full FroYo - works really well bar a few niggles but that's to be expected. Hopefully we get more improvements over the weekend

Finally... I get to show mine. I'm only posting the first screen because I don't think I've seen anyone use the More Icons app. I LOVE this app. It gives me so much more screen real estate. Also, I used FolderOrganizer (amazing app) to make tons of shortcuts (even direct dial/message).

From a few others, I learned how to change the font. (Damn, that was tough for me - a newbie at android... but I figured it out. Yay! I love experimenting.)

does anybody know how to stop the force cropping when setting a wallpaper? Or, any way of setting a full image to be my background?

Here's mine, the weather icon is probably the standout app for me (sad I know).

Snowstorm weather widget - Android app on AppBrain

Ok can't upload for some reason, rooted phone using shootme yet i get the following error

Hm... ok. I really like the animation stuff for the default weather widget, but it's kinda stupid to me for a weather widget to only show the current weather and no forecast for the day.

Thanks

Finally got around to something I am happy with and the time to get the shots. Photo is from my holiday. I might change it to something else but happy with the layout an widgets now. I am using ADW launcher with Fancy widget (Clock and Weather), Pure messenger widget (Email,Text,Twitter,Facebook), 3 audio player (music widget/app) and Extended Controls Bar.

Trying to keep it in a few screens and clean.

To anyone who has Launcher Pro: Does the HTC Sense actually run in the background when you use this? I'm thinking of trying out launcher Pro since I don't really need a gigantic 'Phone' button at the bottom... Also how about widget adding, is it straightforward etc?

No, Sense doesn't run in the background with Launcher running.

Adding widgets is just as easy as with Sense, but you don't get the Sense widgets. There are a few good alternatives in the market though, such as Beautiful Widgets for the clock/weather.

Cheerios mate, I'll try it over the week but I dunno if I would miss the FriendStream/Calendar widgets. I'm a bit of a sucker for nice design and the Sense widgets of the apps above beat most of the alternative so far, IMHO.

Yeah i'm the same, however there are some good alternatives in the market. Jorte is a good calendar. Not quite as pretty as the HTC version, but just as functional (if not more so).

The Beautiful Widgets app can replace the clock/weather widget and supports downloadable skins.

Aside from that, i'm still looking for a decent News/RSS feed widget, and i'm missing my "favourites" widget a bit

But it's worth it IMO, Launcher Pro just feels nicer than Sense.
