Default Can I remove these cartoon emoticons in text messages?

Does anyone know if you can get rid of the little cartoon emoticon things that show up when you make a smiley or something of that sort in text messages? I'm not a fan lol

As far as I know, there isn't a way to remove them in any stock sms app, but you could always download a 3rd party sms app from the market that supports disabling them. I think GO sms has this setting. Hope this helps.
