Default Wonder why Angry Birds isn't working?

Last week Rovio released a beta version of their world wide popular game Angry Birds on Android (Grab the Angry Birds LauncherPro icons). Apart from a few issues regarding different handsets, the release was a great success. The highly addictive game runs very smoothly, and the 15 levels included were extremely enjoyable with a couple of them being quite challenging.

If like me, you have obtained three stars on all of the 15 levels you will be thinking to yourself ‘when, oh when will the full version come out!?’. Well at TalkAndroid.com we have the answer!

Rovio have been kind enough to answer a few of our questions here at TalkAndroid.com, and we can confirm that the full version is not that far away.

Read what Rovio had to say below:

TA.com : What can you tell us about the future of Angry Birds on Android?

Rovio : We are currently working hard to ensure that Angry Birds on Android will offer best game experience for as many people as possible. The expected release date is within 2-3 weeks.

TA.com : We have noticed that the Beta only got released to a certain number of devices. For example, we did not see it on the HTC Wildfire or Hero, but we did see it on the HTC Desire. I assume that this was simply because of the screen resolutions. Do Rovio plan to support a wider range of Android devices in future?

Rovio : At the moment, the game does not support QVGA displays, which is what the Wildfire has. We’re looking into trying to add support for QVGA devices. The game runs on the Hero, but there is a significant lag. We will try to solve any issues for as many devices as possible, before releasing the full version.

TA.com : Is there any more information you would like to tell as at the moment?

Rovio : There will be more details very soon, as we prepare to announce the full game on Android.

Well, there you have it people. Only a couple more weeks until we get see the full version of Angry Birds come to Android. It was also very interesting to hear about the support for certain screen types. Hopefully Rovio will be able to support all screens in the future though.

Exclusive: Q&A with Rovio regarding Angry Birds and why it won’t work on some phones)

Some Eris users couldn't get it to work. Dunno what screen the Eris has but WVGA isn't supported yet.

Then, you're SOL. I'm running it on both an iOS device and Droid without issue. Maybe a future release will fix compatibility issues. They have it running on a Hero, although with some lag.

The Eris is WVGA. Which is probably why some people are reporting issues with it. I can't get it to start on my phone either.

I'm running it on xtrROM 4.2 with no problem. When I tried it on xtrROM 4.5 it was lagging a bit.

WVGA is 'Wide' VGA 800x480.
The Eris is HVGA or 'Half' VGA 480x320.

Angry birds works just fine on my Eris.

According to Rovio's website "Angry Birds Lite Beta will run on second generation Android devices and upwards."

The Eris is considered a first generation android device due to the lower end specs. So if you are lucky enough to get it to work good for you! Otherwise you might be SOL (keep in mind though it is still in beta and you never know what might happen).

Found it in the marketplace, downloaded/installed uneventfully, runs fine. Very addictive! (I first tried downloading the .apk and using a file manager to install; kept getting the "out of space" error. Then went to the marketplace on spec, and there it was.)

What marketplace did you find it in? What is the "marketplace on spec" you mention?

Thanks!

The Android Marketplace. Just looked again tonight - searched for "angry bird" and there it was.

"Went to the marketplace on spec" just means I didn't really expect to find it, went there (the Android Marketplace again) on the chance that it would be there.

If you can't get it to install on your Eris, try another ROM. I couldn't get it to work on mine, then I changed ROM's the other day. Yesterday I decided to just try again and it worked. Played it for like three hours straight.

Addictive little bugger isn't it!

It does definitely play better on some ROMs than on others. I personally haven't hit one that it doesn't play on, but I have no problem believing that there are some.

It sure is addictive. Wish the full version was available somewhere, could probably waste a whole week of my life with it.

I'm not rooted and it works great. Initially installed it from another post that was on here. Worked great, then got the email link from whoever makes the game and installed just fine and still works for me.

Interesting. I've been really busy this week and haven't had a chance to load up a new ROM. I'll try xtrROM 4.5 and see what happens. If unrooted people are running it no problem though, I'm not sure its going to make a difference, doesn't seem like there's a pattern to who can get it to work and who can't.

Android Central is reporting that their host (the Angry Birds host) server is down at the moment... Angry Birds now available! (update: once the host is back up, that is) | Android Central

I've only played it for about 20 minutes or so, but I've not had it freeze on me.
Rooted and running Nonsensikal, don't know if that would make a difference or not.

Does anyone playing the new full version on the Eris find the birds hit the targets slow? On my Incredible the game flies, but I installed it on my wife's Eris through getjar (couldn't find it on the Market on her phone), and it works fine, but slow.

To me it looks like the same speed as before. I expect you're seeing a difference in processor power in the two phones.

Word. Problem is she never had the Lite version on her Eris, so it's hard to say whether it's the CPU or something else on her phone slowing it down.

Running KaosFroyo v38. Can't get either angry birds app to install from the Market. Will try the APK files tomorrow after getting some sleep.

Thinking I'm gonna switch ROMs though. KaosFroyo is hella slow, even freshly installed with nothing on the phone. Any ROM suggestions? Preferably confirmed to work with Angry Birds.

My wife will HAVE to have that on this Eris. (I'm setting it up for her.)

I run AB on my Eris with the xtrSense rom, works perfectly. I also use adfree which is free in the market which gets rid of all the annoying ads on AB. also, I make sure when playing the game to set my screen to not time out as having to wake up the phone will mess up the game.

I'm using nonsensikal v15.2 and AB was running a bit laggy until I turned off the sound in the game. It's not as smooth as iOS but its fine.

How do you like that ROM? I'm putting it on now to test it out. I tried two other Froyo roms and angry birds is still unplayable, both iterations of it, even though the rest of the phone performs very well with Froyo installed.
