Ok I searched and searched.. cant find. Can someone please tell me how to add my own picture where it says "me" in the text message threads. I have a headache...
Open people and "click" on you (My Contact Card). Once opened hit menu and then edit. The rest you should be able to edit as you would a regular contact. Click on the picture or lack there of and select what you want. That should put an image of you in your text messages.
Funny I still cant edit my contact card.edit opens for a second then closes.

craigsphone never connects.

Maybe I'll reflash tomorrow. Idk some problems bother me some don't.....

i'm sure this has been discussed, but to ask it for most likely the 74th time, how difficult is it to revert to 1.5 from the leaked 2.1 rom if at all possible?

figured. so when 2.1 is released officially, if it is the identical one to the leaked version and is released ota, we will not get it. but if it's also released as a download from verizon.com, would we be able to flash it?

if it's identical then you wouldn't need it over the air, because you'd already have it.

Drinking a beer currently. I'm not a rich man, so Miller Lite is my choice tonight.

In any case, I was thinking earlier today... If we assume that they're going to roll out the 2.1 official OTA update in stages, ie. one part of the country at a time, it would make sense that this Friday would be the first of the rollouts, with more following over the next few weeks should everything go well. If they're going to try and stick to their 2.1 by the end of Q1 that is.

So, uh... BEER!

That's a good theory, now here's the hole in it...

2.1 is supposed to be released by EOQ1. Released does not necessarily mean installed on all phones. As long as they START the rollout by 3/31 they are on schedule.

Exact opposite for me. When they saw how fast I could funnel a beer, it became my job to compete with all challengers. (Never lost. Still don't look like Frank the Tank either.) I also got so inebriated the first night of this discovery defending my chugging champion position that they put a gold football helmet on my head and wrote "Captain Keg" on it with a black sharpie pen.

Yeah. College. Alcoholism training with short bursts of intellectualism.

As for 2.1 - I'm actually getting excited about the official rollout again, even though I have the leak, just to see what kind of upgrades and fixes they offer on top of the already fantastic user experience I've been enjoying the last week or so.

No, because we knew someone that claimed to have gotten in and then kicked out for some reason, so we kinda stayed away from the frat. We're no longer friends with the guy, but...this was a year ago.

Gmail losing its sync after 2.1 update...

I went to Setting - Accounts & Sync - and Auto-sync was off by default. As soon as I checked it, I started getting my Gmails right away.

There's another hole. Timeframes change based on new information. Q1 was their plan. It's possible something could change that plan. They are under no obligation to meet any Q1 date.

I was told by a VZW Supv. the OTA version will be different and have different version number thereby over righting our version, he said many of his colleagues have this version as well in his office. He was certain the new version will be an update; makes sence to me; anyone else have an idea?

Default Question

I stopped checking this thread daily because I was sick of... reading the same posts over and over. I just came back and BAM there's a lot going on. Can someone point me towards the thread that explains how to get the new 2.1? I apologize for asking, but I didn't want to start a new thread, and I totally don't have the patience to read that many pages of stuff.

Is it able to be done by a non-techie or should I just keep waiting for the OTA?

Tis Easy... Read the other posts and you can see how to do it easy and what problems people ran into and the solutions to most of the problems.

Perhaps I missed this in the new features or maybe it's a glitch, but has anyone noticed their ringtone volume lowers when they pick up their phone? It's happened to me several times where the phone will ring, but the ringer lowers considerably when I pick it up.

PS: I'm having the silent dial bug occasionally.

It's not hard, but there are a few bugs in this version; It seems to be a tester version; it does work, but I would really read first, just so you can make up your own mind if you want to download and boot or just wait..I did mine last Wed. and in some respect I wish I had waited, but in others I am glad I did...Look at OfTheDamned or Caddymans stuff; but basically here is the site:

http://thekrtek.net/2010/03/03/eris-2-1-tutorial/

Just download the zip file; don't try to unzip it; open your phone to disk storage; drag the file to your phone, power off and on by holding the end key and either down volume or scroll button; follow the directions on the web site...your phone will do the rest...What I did find out that has made my phone much more bug free; do NOT overload your phone with a bunch on needless apps...so far the bug I had has not been so bad since I reformatted by sd...so save your junk from your sd, reformat from windows, then place your PB00ING.zip on it, power off etc....thats the only advice I have given on this site....I am not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night;;;No I didn't.

It's a setting that was discussed earlier in this thread. Under Sound and Display settings -- Quiet Ring on Pickup. Just disable that.

PS: I'm having the silent dial bug occasionally.
GO to Menu>settings>sounds & display then uncheck the "Quiet ring on pickup".

~Edit~ Damn, you guys are fast. I just read the page, went to reply and there were a bunch before me.

I went back to Caddy's posts from November about tips/tricks, bugs etc. I finally reformatted the sd, reloaded the PB00IMG.zip, put it back on my phone, then started to put things on it slowly, used the phone for a while to see if it had problems, then used it more. I am thinking the bug may not be so much 2.1 as it may be 2.1 + buggy apps that aren't quite tweeked enough in Market; some of the apps we used flawlessly from 1.5 may have some affect on lag, etc when trying to operate with 2.1....Not sure, but so far no trouble since I did the above changes;;Anyone else have some suggestions?

In case nobody's interested; The silent ring..no one there thing happened again, this time without any apps on other than those that came with the download-PB00IMG.zip file, so I am confident the problem is with the test version and not necessarily with the apps we are putting on. I received a missed call, I swiped my finger on the bar downward, pushed the person's number from that icon and tried to call; nothing....They tried to call back...nothing..silent. I powered off and back on and everything was OK. Just wanted to report this to whomever cares..(nobody) Boofrackinhooooo........8-)

Interesting. You added a tiny penis at the end of your rant.

Join the community, then jump to this thread and ask the same damn questions over and over again. There is a search here too. It angers me so.

Also, I think it is time to change the thread name.

I was thinking the same thing a few pages back. It should be the so you finally got 2.1. and first post should be a link and clear directions so we dont get the question anymore. Of course I could be taken the time right now to do that myself but ehh..

downloaded earlier and played with it ever since. It was mostly on the charger tho, but Its a heck of alot snappier and almost no lag. I was downloading 2 apps at a time with no lag and when making all my commands the phone keeps right up. Service as been great and I live on the ocean where it seems to always be low. Smoother interface and more intuitive then ever. I looove the unofficial leak|!

Okay, this thread is 70 pages long, I'm just looking for an anticipated date of official OTA release. Anyone know?

Still Q1 of 2010, which is over in two weeks.

Unofficial leak is out though.

I am happy that I took the plunge and updated to the Leaked 2.1. The Only Issue I have had is that every time I restart my phone I have to enter my passwords for my gmail accounts. This is just a small aggravation that I am sure will be sorted out when the official release is made OTA. As for the operation of the phone everything seems to be a little faster then 1.5. The lag is gone when placing calls and ending calls and the lag is gone when you use Google voice search. Google Nav is awesome as well. I am still testing the battery life on my phone so I will post my results once the battery dies.

All in all I am very happy that I installed the leaked 2.1 update.

Thank You to everyone that have helped get this leak out and installed on so many phones.

Just an FYI, anyone who got the leaked 2.1 will be getting the new 2.1 when it's OTA'd. They made some changes to the radio.
