I know I am late but HEYYY OTD

Speaking of the Eris, my brother's girlfriend brought one off Ebay for like 60 bucks and loves that little sucker(Coming from a Motorola Krave, I can't blame her lol)

I played with the Krave. It's kind of cool that it is a flip/touch screen(I kind of expected the Droid Razr to be that way)

on an off note. Do any of the people from Xda or whatever still support/make roms and stuff for Eris or is it pretty much dead on all accounts?

Anyone read about the Eris II ? Yeah, not really. Just feeling rather "sentimental" lately. Yeah, not really that either. Visited the Eris section yesterday, just to see...

Still check here everyday out of habit, along with the GNex and Nexus 7 forums. Don't want to leave those who still have questions in the dust! Probably already have a hard enough time getting support as it is.

Although, you can tell a forum is mostly dead when the last thread on the first page was almost a year ago, and a lot of the front page threads are just bumped old threads by users unaware of the fact that that the last post was back in 2010.

I'm really starting to miss the "THIS PHONE IS A PIECE OF CRAP" threads.

I kind of miss the "Task Killer" threads; those were always very contentious and entertaining. Oh, and the "Leakers get 2.1 !!" threads. Ever since I moved to an iPhone (which I jailbroke *yawn*), I've sort of lost touch with anything fun with respect to smart phones. You know, I haven't even rooted my Nexus 7. I started to look through some of the ROMs but never really decided on one. It's nice to come back and see the "old" folks here.

I like it. I think all that is required is to lift your shirt and smile.

This was one of my favorites: YES, you need a task killer app for the Eris. PERIOD.

I think this was the extent of my "help"...

There has been a number of times that someone I know will break or lose their phone and offer to buy my Eris. My response is normally, "I have several Blackberry phones you might like better that I'll just give you." That usually stops the Eris part of the conversation.

How odd; it's been many months since I've checked the Eris forums with such frequency, and this is basically (but not entirely) the only thread that is getting new posts. I essentially come back for this thread. Seems a rational conclusion is the "Eris Crowd" are some pretty cool folks. Got me to thinking: For the folks that spend time around here; are there similar threads in all other older device forums? Or are we just tight-knit like that? Just wondered.

*edit* I've also noticed, since not being around AF nearly as often...I get suspended much less frequently.

I don't remember ever "bumping" a thread before, and a bump to this thread certainly wouldn't make any difference because this thread has been at the top since late March...buuuut

Found my Eris' new purpose after a full year of not using it as my phone. Its now my dash cam. Flashed a Gingerbread ROM, installed Dailyroads, stripped a lot of unnecessary apps like Gmail, Calendar and such.

Recorded for a near hour straight without any problem. A little low res, being only 320 x 240, but oh well. I'm not complaining, and if anything that means a whole hour of video with audio at about 15 fps only takes 150 MB.

Here, have a tree trimmer doing a martial arts pose.

I think the lens was a little dirty, so it looks a little hazy. I also need to position the phone better so don't see the mounting arm and see less wiper.

That's a great idea, Demache!

What did you use to mount it?

Amazon.com: Arkon Weighted Friction Dash Mount for Universal Phone, Smartphone and PDA-Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I originally bought this for my Galaxy Nexus. However, I don't really use it all that often. So I used this. With one caveat.

The Eris, is a little too small even on its smallest setting. So what do I do?

I use a glove to fill in the extra space. It works surprisingly well. Also here's a sample video for what to expect. Not amazing quality, but audio is halfway decent considering my *very* noisy car at ~70 MPH. Note, the podcast I'm listening has some -less than professional- language, so be aware if your offended by that or have children around.

Eris Dailyroads Test April 23, 2012 - YouTube

Also turn on Closed Captioning. Its sort of neat what the app does with the subtitles. Realtime speed, time and location readout.

I think that is the best use for a retired Eris I have seen yet! Cool video, thank you for sharing!

Even better yet, its doing it all on the battery. I can't find my miniUSB car charger . Going by the battery drain, it could record for 2.5-3 hours on one charge. Good enough for me since I rarely drive longer than that at a time.

That's fairly impressive considering its the stock 3 year old battery, with GPS, the LCD, and QVGA video recording (likely pushing it to the limit).

Here, have a tree trimmer doing a martial arts pose.

I think the lens was a little dirty, so it looks a little hazy. I also need to position the phone better so don't see the mounting arm and see less wiper.
I just hope that you don't record any meteorites smashing into the ground nearby.

Also does Android Forums look incredibly messed up for anyone else? It seems like the style sheet or something got really corrupted, and my Avast keeps blocking a url on this page from "creditgif.com" or something like that.

I checked it in IE10 so its not just Firefox anyway.

Just showed up like that for me too. Just now. Weird. Running Firefox on Mint

I noticed this yesterday, and one other time in the past, both on my Mac (I checked Chrome, Safari and Firefox, and they were all the same.)

Hmm, seems to be normal now.

Roadcam - Car videos

I won't lie, this is probably my favorite subreddit ever. Probably sound sick because of that, but its true. Probably because I find car crashes so interesting to watch.

Most of them are amusing since they are so stupid or because how people react, but some are really, really cringeworthy and aren't for the faint of heart. Like some of them are obviously fatal accidents (the ones marked NSFW are usually the worst, and you can probably imagine why).

Yeah, I used to like that kind of video. The funny ones I like, but serious injury and death in videos makes me sad. Ever since I started working in an E.R. and actually seeing those people and their families, it's "too real".

I don't even like seeing the video of the cows spilling out of the truck anymore.

But I do love steak!

I think John Stewart said it best, " not even Russian cows care". When they just get up and walk away it's just lol.

And I admittedly let myself think "oh, they were surely wearing their seatbelt. They're fine." when I see one of the car crashes.
But yes, in Soviet Russia, cows are ninjas too.

I just wish the Eris video quality was slightly better (at 640 x 480). But whatever. It gets the job done. I guess I've been spoiled by instant 720p on my GNexus and glorious 1080p on my DSLR.
