That's hilarious, because I discovered the same thing while on my morning walk just today!
When you hold down the volume button in the headset, it beeps fairly quickly. I thought that meant that it was at the limit of its range. It turns out that if you let up and press it over and over, it gets louder and louder.
Doh!
I'm much happier with it now.
I want to also confirm what another member found out about this bluetooth headset... you don't actually NEED the earbuds on the lanyard to listen to music. The music will come through just the bluetooth headset. Not sure if all have that ability, but I think its nice to have the option! Happy listening!
" It should be noted that the device will receive A2DP audio albeit in mono without the stereo headset attached and without any additional software installed on my phone, a useful feature for me. "
Confirmed... listening to music through the bluetooth headset alone right now!
EDIT#2: is this lanyard thing the one you're talking about? weird, by stereo i thought i could listen to mp3's while just having the headset in one ear without using a necklace/earbuds
I am currently listening to music (Pandora) using only the WEP870 headset--no necklace/earbuds attached.

sweet.. how is the sound quality karib and fulltime-trav?
be descriptive! is it annoying to only be listening to an mp3 on one ear? haha
Listening to monaural music is much less of an enjoyable experience than binaural, and having it in only one ear reduces it to something like having a radio somewhere in one corner of the room.
So far the Jawbone Icon Hero is the best bluetooth headset out for the money in my opinion. It will tell the amount of talk time with the push of a bottom, comfortable, looks good, sounds great, has many wearing options. I will no be sorry to get this unit.
Just won a new Jawbone Icon Ace on ebay for my fiancee for $72 shipped! She's been so jealous as I tell her what else I've been doing while talking to her while meanwhile, she's been sitting around waiting for a second free hand to be able to make dinner.

I like the Samsung WEP870 but i figure if it's $75.00 id rather spend extra and get a jawbone.
I was browsing the Jawbone forum and an Aliph rep said they have no headsets that support this, yet.

I tried it today for a while and it is kind of strange to hear it in only one ear, sounds pretty flat too. Its definitely not my preferred choice of listening, but its nice to have the option to use it on its own or use the earbuds.

i noticed a lot of people on the thread recommending the jawbone icon, and i totally disagree. i had a jawbone prime and i upgraded to the icon....
i thought the jawbone prime was a waaaayyy better headset. i thought it was more comfortable and sounded better. of course the icon was a lower price new....but that's really not fair either since i already had a prime
so now i use still use the jawbone prime and another headset i just picked up called the nica sunrise (you should check it out (http://mavericklifestyle.com), they're pretty cool and definitely hit the spot when im in public and dont want to look too futuristic)....and my icon sits alone on my desk in the corner
**i also think the icon voices thing is goofy
