Default Does anyone have the Speech to text in Gmail Option

I played with the nexus one and you could compose a whole email message by speaking to the phone. I thought this was part of 2.1 for all phones. I can't seem to find this option. I did set up the text to speech, but I think this is different than speech to text.

Thanks

here is an example of the speech to text. It would suck if we don't have this.

No, there is not speech to text in the stock Eris 2.1.

It may be possible to add it later though...

I don't think it was in the leaked build. Should be something we see when the official release comes out.

Never mind on that. Thanks for that info NKT.

Nope. Edit: like the dude above me said, not in this build.. but I would be surprised if it even makes it in the official update

Gonna have to hold out for root + custom ROMS for that one.

Better Keyboard works sorta OK for short voice-to-text things

Yeah I saw that. Your post was at the same time as mine and well, you have better info than I do on the actual release

There should be an app that would take care of that for us.

This maybe something you are looking for? I left out the email transcription part from handsfree.ly because the transcriptions are so bad, it wasnt worth the effort....

Hi,
I released a free android app (handsfree.ly) and a paid $1.99 version (GMail handsfree.ly) that essentially do what you are asking. My tech stack focuses on the speech recognition part (names anyone..Goog chokes on my name eg) and the TTS part. I built the GMail reader app to showcase this tech stack.

You can:
-Listen to all your unread emails (just subject, sender, date)
-Listen to body, Reply, Compose, Pay (via PayPal)

It is very very secure because you never hand out your gmail password to handsfree.ly (you authorize via google and can revoke this auth anytime you wish). Just setup your a/c at handsfree.ly (thats the url btw), download the app and happy listening....
