Default Email - Sync 4 days?

In Gmail, there is an option to Sync 'x' days. What does this mean?

It is how many days back you want the phone to pull from the gmail servers. For example let's say you have a couple thousand emails in your inbox, you probably don't want all of them on your phone. So you choose to sync for 4 days, and the only ones on your phone will be those messages that are newer than 4 days. All the rest will remain on the gmail server.

It can pull more than the setting. If you only have one e-mail from the past x days, it will pull enough to fill the screen. If you keep scrolling down, it will keep pulling e-mails, but will reset to the default when you exit.
