when you open it, you will have to:
1. push the "UP" button which will take you to the "root" folder (it will show only a "/" when you look at the top) of the phone.
2. click on the system folder
3. click on the app folder.
4. long press on the app you want to copy,
5. select edit,
6. select copy.
7. then push the "UP" button again til you get back to that "/" folder,
8. go to your SDCard,
9. click on edit (at the top)
10. then paste....
11.
otherwise, if they are already stored on the sdcard, just skip the steps i listed and upload the file in your next post (its under the "additional options") at the bottom of the page when you are replying to a message
Sooo....before I begin I'll apologise....I'm a Noobasaurus.......
^This^ will save applications to the Micro SD card in the Eris? And then these applications can be used from there? And this will free up phone memory?

no.
this just backs up the apps so you can reinstall if you need to.
there is currently no way to run an app from the SD card.
though since the kernal version was released today im sure someone is working on it

Oh man...I have bad news : < Calorie Counter is a private app, so I can't back it up Sorry. I thought it was funny that I got an error message when I tried to back it up. Hopefully the dev responds to the complaints and put WW back on again.

@ andrizoid: fyi your QR doesn't seem to be working, I tried the WW QR a couple of posts up and it's fine, but with yours, the camera kept on 'focusing'
Trip It - travel itinerary organizer. Works great for keeping all your flight and hotel info in one place.
Timeriffic - change ringer volume and vibrate settings based on a schedule automatically
AutoLock - tired of putting in your security pattern every time your phone turns off. Autolock allows you to set a period of inactivity before requiring your security pattern.
Shazam - great for identifying songs
Places Directory - as stated in a previous post...great way to find places near your location

Hey, wondering how this app is on your battery? I think it's draining my battery at an alarming rate 5 hours and only 20% battery left and this is with 10 minutes playing with the phone and 2 hours listening to music. I downloaded Astro and this yesterday...uninstall astro just to see if it's the culprit..but it seemes that timeriffic is the cause

I used it for a period of time on my Motorola Droid and it absolutely killed my battery.

I have not noticed much difference at all regarding battery life since I started using it several months ago.
Anyway I can get tv.com on 2.1v3? It is not in the market.
Just do a google search on any app you can't find and there is a pretty good chance you will find it. (ie... tv.com apk). Download the apk file and you're good to go.
will do.
now i think im just here to help others. i finally got all my issues worked out. rooted, vanilla rom, sweeterhome with my own custom theme, deleted unneeded stock apps. dude im set

Good deal! That sounds like an awesome plan to me!
These are the first apps I install each time I put a new ROM on:
Google Voice - Better than Visual Voice Mail
Handcent SMS - Best SMS app
Calendar Pad - Best calendar application. Lets you see text in month view
Beautiful Widgets - Better home clock widget than Sense
Skyfire - Best web browser
Astro - Best File Manger
Bible by Lifechurch.tv - Best Bible reading program with many versions and reading plans
Pandora - Best free music streaming app
Mobile Buzz - Cool news widget (also Gaming Buzz and Sports Buz)
Engadget - Best tech news site and app
XDA - Great app for browsing XDA Forums
Favorite Games: Speedx 3D, Bonsia Blast, Blow Up, Space Physics, Flight Director, Gem Miner, AirAttack and Papa Stacker.

Two thumbs up for Calendar Pad. I really like this. I just got rid of Calwidget (which i like too). I like the 4 x 4 week view, and with one tap, the month opens quickly.
will do.

I'm becoming OCD about tweaking this thing I don't think I'll ever be able to just sit back and not change something.
So OTD posted the Easy Money financial app, is there anybody else using something to track finances? Just like to weigh my options. Interested in free (keeping with OP), but if it's 30 day trial/paid like Easy Money, that would be fine if it's worth the funds. TIA

I'm using Cashew, it's a more detailed finance/budget managing app. It provides easy transactions entry, multiple currencies support, powerful report engine. Cashew - personal finance manager for Android

Are there any good apps for downloading video from the web. My friend says he has an app on his iPhone that lets him download all kinds of video. He gets movies and everything. Are there any apps that let me find and download video all in one place? I'm not really interested in converting them and then adding them to the SD.

I haven't got that app to work since the first time I used it. Now I just go through the browser to go to YouTube. Any tips for that?
And I was thinking more along the lines of actual video files. Like the ones you would find in torrents. I want to be able to find movies and maybe TV shows. If anyone has any good links just PM them to me if they aren't allowed on this forum.
I must have google voice. I put in a request a while ago and haven't heard from them in months. I was looking for a specific thread to request an invite but nothing was there. I would appreciate a reply or PM from anyone that could send me an invite. I got tons of international calls that would be made infinitely cheaper. Thanks.

if you are on 2.1 the youtube app works just fine.
might be tie to start thinking about rooting.
and there is a torrent client for android but it doesnt work that great, might give it a shot again though now that im overclocked
I was interested in rooting from the start but I didn't really see much of a need for it. I tried to look for some pros and cons and it got a little messy for my noob head. I still would need to make a back up of all my apps and stuff. Can you simplify what is best about rooting?

1. complete backups of your phone. even down to the texts and emails that you had at the time, settings also intact. backs up every little detail, even apps that you no longer have installed.
2. custom roms. great for personalization.
3. cool apps like a one touch cache cleaner, screen capture app etc.
4. on evil eris2 overclocking is now supported so you can speed your phone up.
5. also on evil eris2 you can install apps to your sd card freeing up a lot of phone memory

Thanks for making me even more jealous now! I can't wait for them to find a way to root 2.1 leaks.
