Default No end of life for Eris yet?

just wondering. People on here said Eris would be eol'd the end of may and here it is June and its still for sale. My local Verizon even said they're still getting shipments and no nothing about eol.

It still being for sale almost made my phone feel not so obsolete. Almost

I believe EOL Means that HTC will no longer produce them in the factory.

BUT! There is still a huge stock of Eris' that still need to be sold, hence why Verizon is still getting shipment.

I may be wrong, but if I am someone will correct me.

BTW Don't let the EOL thing get to you. It means nothing. If your phone works and you like it, then why the worry?

actually EOL means Verizon will not place any new orders....... HTC will still finish making phones to fill any current orders Verizon already placed with them (the reason why new phones are being shipped with 2.1 already on them, HTC isnt going to build new phones with old software)....... what this means is Verizon will still be receiving the balance of their orders from HTC ....... and Verizon will still be selling the Eris until that supply runs out (which is why they are slashing the prices to try to get rid of them)....... standard business model in any corner of electronics

getting any more updates at this point would be pure speculation at any rate......

Ive seen different threads floating around with different theories etc....

IMO from what I understand.. VZW has said theyre working on a patch for 2.1 to fix some of the issues people have been complaining about........ since its so close to EOL that would lead me to believe that if theyre bothering to work on a 2.1 patch with 2.2 already released then we wont be getting 2.2 ever as an official release for the Eris....... they wouldnt bother patching 2.1 otherwise

if that theory holds true then theres only 1 possible update coming anyhow.....

of course thats just my opinion and as I stated........ pure speculation

as for me Im just holding out hopes that someone finds a root for 1.49

I spoke to a tech at Verizon about the EOL thing... He said the only people talking about Eris EOL is Eris users and that Verizon had not even hinted at EOLing this unit. The best anyone can do is speculate, but it sounds like (based on public information), that Eris is not in line to receive the 2.2 update. That doesn't mean it is EOLed, it just means someone decided the unit was not deemed worthy of update.

My sister went to her local Verizon store, the other day, and was told that the Eris is discontinued. Maybe certain stores are no longer receiving orders. The Eris received two maintenance release updates within a couple of months of each other, just after initial release. The Eris may see 2.2, but nobody is going to know this until, at least, the end of the summer.

With the problems post-2.1, it's doubtful they'd EVER run out of refurbs

They will probably have refurbs for the next 2-3 years, but if they do happen to run out, then they will send you a phone that is considered close in features to the Eris or they will offer an early upgrade.

If this is true, im glad i got mine last week. I love it. it does everything i need it to. And does it well. Came with 2.1 installed. No bugs yet. got a smokin deal. And will be more than enough to last me 2 yrs.

BTW, at the Verizion kiosk in the mall they said they were discontinued 2 weeks ago when i was looking for an ERIS, but at the Verizion Store, they had some in stock and on Display.

Someone may have mentioned this, but they patched 1.5 after 2.1 was released, and we still received 2.1.

Updating Sense for 2.2 is going to take some time, and making us wait with these bugs until that is finished would be unacceptable IMHO. So, the fact that they are working on a patch for 2.1 doesn't necessarily mean that we won't see 2.2.

However, there is no indication that we WILL get 2.2 either.

It was listed there this morning because I looked at it before I called VZW to complain about the features they list that just arent and probably never will be available to me........ such as hands free

it had their big red letters SOLD OUT across it...... and since its EOL then its no surprise they took down the listing if theyre out of stock

my friend went in yesterday to verizon to buy the eris but the lady working there said they were back ordered and had to wait 2 weeks to get one because every time they get a shipment they sell out in a couple days but then a little later she found out they weren't even going to stock them any more so he got the omnia 2. he only wanted swype.

I think it depends on location/how well they sell in certain stores. I know in my local Verizon store, the Eris sells better than the Droid. When I got my Eris about two months ago, the rep said as he was activating my phone, "I wish we could sell as many Droids as we do Eris's. We'd be making a lot more money [laugh]". So I doubt they're going to stop selling them there. But with newer phones that sell better than an outdated Eris, there's no reason to keep it on the shelf. That's how I see it, anyways. It's still on Verizon's and HTC's webpages. But who knows.

I'm not seeing it on their website, either. A tech told me they'd still have them when I'm due for my update at the end of July, but it's not looking like it. And I really wanted one, too...

Don't worry, by then the new Droids should be out. And if the leaked images are correct (which I'm almost 100% sure they are) they look a lot better than the original Droid if you ask me.

Edit: Just checked Verizon's site. They don't have the Eris... I guess I was wrong in my earlier post.

I'm thinking of ditching my Eris and buy the Droid X, I like how it's 4.4 inches. If Verizon and HTC send out a patch for all of these bugs, I'll keep my Eris.

I keep hoping to hear more about the Scorpion, because I don't want a Motorola and the Inc seems way too breakable.

I'd honestly have to wait to see the Droid 2 if I was to switch. I sort of want a keyboard on my next phone, so right now it would be the Ally or the Droid 2. Too bad I really can't afford an ETF or anything. That would make everything easier lol

The only thing that will happen if the Eris is not being sold by VZW any longer is that it will go up in price. People want this phone. It's comfortable in the hand, it works fine with a few tweaks, is inexpensive and looks great. I got 2 for free with my upgrade BOGO and I haven't seen any selling for under around $200 on Ebay or Craigs.

I don't think you have to pay an ETF just to get a new phone, just pay full retail, right?

I asked about doing BOGO with my upgrade so my husband can have one, too. The CSR said hubby has to be due for an upgrade also for the BOGO to happen. Was that the case for you?
