Confused anonymous surfing with droid wifi?

when you disable your mobile network and run only wifi at a public location,ie coffee shop, are you anonymous? I know that at home your ip address is an easy grab for someone who can trace it back to you, but a cell phone public wifi connection? my brother says no, my friend says yes, Verizon says nothing.
