Default Does your Incredible squeak? (solution inside)

Without a case, when you pick up your phone, or press it on the right side, does it squeak?

Edit: Solution! Credit to DocHolliday.

Cut a business card to your liking and place it on top of the battery. Then put the cover back on. Sure enough, squeaking is gone!

Mine didn't when I first got it but after sending my Seidio back and putting the stock battery back in, it does squeak now. Kinda annoying...

squeak like a mouse, an old mattress? I voted no cause no noise comes out of my phone when I do these things to it... What is causing it?

Yup. If enough people honestly say they don't have it, I might take mine back...but then again I spent so much time getting into recovery for root. lol

With a non OEM battery did you not have a squeak?

I voted 'yes' but thats not really accurate. When I press on the battery cover on the right side it pushes in slightly. However it doesn't make a noise so I actually wouldn't say that it squeaks.

Overall not a very significant issue for me though.

I didn't have it before I used the Seidio. My Seidio battery was obnoxiously tight, in fact when I first got it I decided it didn't fit but after 2-3 tries I got it to pop into place.

Not many votes yet.. But I am surprised 6 yes and we have never seen a thread about this before. I have stock battery and I am like pushing really hard on the sides trying to do everything to get some weird noise to come out of it.. nothing.
Was really shocked you said this had a bad build quality too.. This has to be one of the more solid phones I have ever owned.. I don't feel like I have to baby the hell out of it just so something does not break (Looking at you Pre Plus).

Pushed hard on the sides, back, etc. and tried every thing I could think of to get some type of noise out of it like what you describe. Got nothing.

So voted no here.

Mine squeeks with the oem battery... But I do not use it much, and it is not a big deal. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

It seems that HTC build quality is lacking, compared to Motorola. they need to take some pointers and make their phones sturdier IMO

Yes mine makes noises if I push in on the sides of the back cover. I think because the back cover is so flimsy and flexible, that is the reason why it creeks. Not a problem at all for me as I am using a VZW black hardshell case.
I also noticed that under normal handling, there is no problem at all with it creeking. I really have to squeeze pretty hard for it to make any noise.

Other than the back cover, this thing is built like a tank ! The tradeoff is worth it to me to have such a slim phone.

No squeak here. I even took the battery out and put it back in and put the battery cover back on just to be sure. No squeak.

Mine did and I seem to have found a simple fix. Take a business card and cut it in half. Place over the battery and put the back cover back on. Phone stops creaking and even feels more solid. Mine wasn't that bad, but enough to annoy me.

Ya mine does, but it doesn't really bug me anymore. I think it's probably due to taking the back off often. It never did when I first got the phone. I'll probably get the HTC 1500mah battery soon and I've heard that can help because it's slightly thicker than the 1300mah.

Mine does on the right side. This is where the sd card is though. Maybe it's because there's a gap in the chassis? (lol need better word)

Mine does not squeak.

Is there anyone with the squeak who has only ever used the stock 1300mAH battery (the red one that comes with the phone)?

I ask because, based on a couple of the comments, I wonder if this is due to using one of the replacement batteries then going back to the stock battery.

I just got the HTC 1500mAH and it's a tad bit thicker than the stock 1300mAH. If the Seidio 1750mAH is also a little thicker, then perhaps the battery cover is being bent ever so slightly by the larger battery. Then when you put the thinner 1300mAH back in the cover doesn't fit quite right.

I haven't put the 1300mAH back in yet and don't have it at work with me, so I can't test this theory.

I tried the business card trick but to no avail. How much of the card did you guys put in there? Did you make it overlap the battery itself?

I just cut it so that it wouldn't cover the speaker grill. It is not folded. Right on top of the battery. Then put the cover on and no more squeak.

Do you have the standard battery? I have the extended. Maybe that's the problem with mine.

No...this will not make the phone work harder thus creating more heat.

Its not that it makes the phone work harder. Im wondering if the card will trap heat, not allowing the phone to dissipate heat as efficiently.

I was thinking this as well. I didn't block a lot of the phone. The battery can get very hot. I was going to check tomorrow to see how it's doing and I've been monitoring the battery temp.

The business card is a good idea. I wonder if it would fit in whole? Good backup if you meet a bangin babe.

Oh and hey look, my phone is red inside.

Cool. My Incredible has been creaking and squeaking a ton the past few weeks. I couldn't even touch it anywhere without the back cover making loud noises. The business card trick works great. No more sounds at all.

And it's funny too because now the phone feels just a bit heavier. A business card only weighs so little but I definitely notice the phone feeling a slight bit heavier, which isn't a bad thing.

Mine makes creaking/squeaking sound or did. I put a few super super small pieces of duct tape ( we're talking a few mm by a few mm ) on the inside of the battery door on the radius along the bottom. Makes zero sound now.

It's a plastic battery door so i'm not surprised it makes sounds on many phones. The tape trick works and it's on the inside of the batt cover so I don't see it unless i take the battery door off and even then i don't really notice it, only a few millimeters

I bought the 1500mAh HTC battery and since it's slightly fatter than the stock Inc battery, the case squeak is totally gone.

lol...this is why I love this forum...mine was making noise but I'm not the type that usually complains so I thought I would search the forums and see if anyone else was having this problem...and sure enough some ppl are, and provided such an easy fix...the business card trick works sure enough...that's awesome.

That's what I was trying to get at.

Confirmed.

I put my stock battery back in today and, sure enough, noticed the sides of my phone were squeaking. I popped the 1500 back in and it stopped immediately.
