nunyabizness, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling htc sync?
which version are you running?
try 2.0.40
Application - HTC Sync 2.0.40 (for Android 1.5 & 1.6)

simmons, cant screenshot since theres no root for froyo yet, but i'll type it out:
its my understanding that the PRL varies by location. mine will be different from yours.

retiredberry, i dont know if it will brick your phone should you not revert, but since everything is going to be erased anyway, i would suggest you do that. revert back to 2.1, do a factory reset as added measure, then go for the RUU.

again, its possible that it would just overwrite everything and not cause conflict, but i'm not 100% and i would hate to be the one that told you wrong.

Thanks True, the only difference on mine is the PRL Version number.

Thanks again for all the help. I'll reboot and see what happens. If that does not help, I may wipe it agian.

I have another quick question maybe someone here can answer. I'm sorry if its been asked before but after I installed the RUU using this method I found the Mobile 3g hotspot and tested it and I had a friend connect to my 3g using his phone. My question is I thought Verizon is charging for this? Is this something I will be charged for like pay per use or will this need to be something I officially agree to pay for?

I'd root it before paying for it in case your wondering but currently my phone isn't rooted.

I literally spent hours last night installing/uninstalling HTC Sync, CCleaner ect ect. I did everything listed, in order, on and on. From about 11:30pm till 3am and every single time I was 170-171'd. I went to sleep, woke up and decided to try it ONCE MORE before I went to work.

Did everything, step 1 to 5 and it worked. Quad standard went from 569 to 1150ish. I was using the phone for about an hour nonstop and lost 13%... haven't touched it in 4 hours and it didn't drop 1%. Thats unreal compared to how it was pre-2.2.

Thanks man. It was a hassle but I love it.

my flash seems to work fine.
it did get choppy with cnn.com, cleared up for a bit, then got choppy again.

i watched this video:
YouTube - DROID Incredible Running Froyo and Full Flash 10.1

before i ever even thought about RUU and was completely unimpressed by it.
its choppy too, but that guy was superpumped about showing it off.

i dont know.

all in all i'd rate the flash's performance a 7.5 of 10.

I got it to work! I had tried both 2.0.40 and 2.0.33, removing and reinstalling, ccleaner, all of the suggestions, to no avail (and I wanted to mention it kept wanting me to reboot my computer - not my phone, but my computer! Weird!). I tried the exact same process on another computer and it worked on the first try! Odd, as both are Win7, 64-bit, but hey, it worked and I'm having FroYo for dinner so it was all worth it! Thanks for your help!

Dumb question....
Is there any reason to go back to 2.1 and load the official OTA zip that is on tne google site. I have seen conflicting opinions, but have not found an easy way to go back.
Thanks,

Heres the thing man. I was wrong about the charge. The phone was 11% about 15 hours in. I need to get rid of all the force apps. Plus, the charge takes forever.

When I said 87%, the app was frozen for a few hours. I was using Battery Lite.

Either way, the batter is worse than ever and I REALLY hope I can fix it ASAP. Add to it, how do I keep Amazonmp3/CityID/Nav ect ect, CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!???

Hey guys,

I really need your help.
I'm out here all on my own and the people around me just can't help. I'm in China first of all, and when I bought my phone here they "unlocked" (rooted?jailbroke?) it so that I can use it on the carriers here. Now that I've FINALLY got the update notification I asked if I could do it and they said "No, don't update, you'll have to unlock the phone again"....So.....I'm sitting here screwed wondering if its ok to use this 2.2 RUU that our kind friend True has posted. If I do so, do you think they'll have to unlock the phone again so I can use it on their carriers? I'm not a techy, so, I really need your guys' help.

Its brain rattling trying to talk about all this stuff in Chinese!

YES, I thought I was the only one. I have the 2150 battery and it takes FOREVER to charge this thing. I used to be able to top it off when I wake up in the morning before going to work but not anymore. It's at least 2x-3x as long it seems. I'm going to watch system panel today and see how long it takes for me to fully charge it back up from about 60%

Thanks for the instructions. Everything worked great except not having HTC Sync installed first caused the 170 error (even on Windows XP SP3). You need to have the ADB driver installed before you can complete the RUU. In my case I had to install Sync and reboot the PC. Then I was able to run RUU and update. So far everything seems to be running great. Thanks again!

BATTERY PEOPLE, its funny that you should mention this because yesterday i was thinking "holy crap, this phone charges fast!" im using the stock 1300 mAh battery.

i noticed that when the phone is ON it feels like it takes a bit longer, but nothing dramatic. when i turn the phone off and let it charge for 10 minutes or so, it will jump up 30-40%.

vnyislesv, i was the #1 battery time lite fan. i LOVED it. then that crap started happening. it would freeze every single time. it has nothing to do with Froyo or the RUU. its the app itself. i tried v3.0 and even went back to an older version on 2.1 AND Froyo and all of them froze. so instead, i just downloaded this nifty battery app called Gauge Battery Widget.

its so much better.
it never freezes, however it DOES lack a "time remaining" feature. but what good is that feature if its always wrong!

as far as those running processes, theyre running but not using any Processor. if you notice in your task killer, you'll see its using 0% Processor. i used to have Advanced Task Killer running CONSTANTLY but started reading that it actually kills the battery faster than NOT running it. so i tried.

sure enough i noticed a HUGE jump in battery life while setting ATK to not
load at all. what i do is have it as back up for an app that might freeze or something. but in 4 days of not running it, i havent had to use it once.

so in conclusion,
i dont think its the update thats causing these problems, we just need to figure out exactly WHAT is causing the charge to take so long (i.e - which apps are running during charge, screen time out and not always on, etc.)

it seems to be more of a case by case basis or else ALL 600+ people that downloaded the RUU would be up in arms, you think?

Simmons,
ive been watching that closely, keeping up with "differences" type threads and so far have found nothing. the RUU matches EXACTLY with the official OTA. i would see no reason what so ever to revert back to 2.1 to then turn around and reinstall with the OTA.

plus, you'll still be receiving all regular system updates INCLUDING any other OTA system updates verizon releases.

but its your call boss!
the process seems to be really hard, but its possible.

no task killer.

I installed the RUU yesterday. Took 10 min and I was running FROYO

Only problem I have found so far, I am using widgetlocker for my lock screen and I use the Agenda Widget on my lock screen. Since the Froyo upgrade I am getting a lot of Force Closes on this app.

Any suggestions, or is there a different Agenda program/widget you could recommend to try.

You should be able to downgrade and then load the update.zip or load the ruu. Once done just root the phone again and have whoever set your phone up for the China network to set it up again. Maybe you could write down what they are doing to save in case you need to re-do later. Search for downgrade instructions in the root section.

ive been watching that closely, keeping up with "differences" type threads and so far have found nothing. the RUU matches EXACTLY with the official OTA. i would see no reason what so ever to revert back to 2.1 to then turn around and reinstall with the OTA.

plus, you'll still be receiving all regular system updates INCLUDING any other OTA system updates verizon releases.

but its your call boss!
the process seems to be really hard, but its possible.
In regards to the battery taking forever to charge, I had system panel monitoring enabled. I turned it off to see if it charges any faster. It hasn't been long enough to determine yet just wondering if anyone else who experienced the long charge - are you also using system panel?

It seems like it's charging a lot faster now, but I cant say for sure. I'm going to fully charge then run it down and try it with the monitoring re-enabled.

Thanks for your help man, I really appreciate it. But what exactly would I be downgrading for? I'm using the 2.1 that came with the phone. The only thing I've noticed thats different is there's some "superuser permissions" thing in the app menu, with some ninja looking guy. I'm not on 2.2 but man do I want to be!

Can you explain forever?

I usually charge at night, but is it going to take me 10 hours to do a full charge?

or what?

i believe you will lose root if you update.

since youre so concerned, just keep it the way you have man.
2.1 is still really f'n good.

if it aint broke, dont fix it, right?

there are just too many variables coming into play with your device.
- location
- root
- rom (2.1)
- provider
- plan

all of these come into play with your question. thats probably why noone has answered it. its a loaded question with no straight answer.

my educated guess is:
you will lose root if you update to 2.2

my retort is:
you can always have someone re-root it once it comes out.
then at that point, you can even have them load on a different ROM that has all the extraneous CRAP verizon forced on us off!

I have waited long enough. I am using your procedures tonight, tomorrow, or Saturday....since I won't be able to go to the beach because of Earl. This is an awesome, informative post. Thanks

I used the RUU upgrade (s-off was performed BEFORE upgrading) and everything went fine. I am NOT seeing any problems with charging my battery or its over all batter life. I do run the Matrix Live Wallpaper on my home screen and that does cause my battery to dis-charge quicker but I dont mind PERSONALLY.

I am Rooted with RUU Froyo 2.2 s-off and LOVING it.. Dont believe me? See my sig. LOL

I used my Windows 7 (x86) to do the whole process and had no problems. I think the most difficult part was getting the windows/Android drivers installed correctly. Otherwise, it was a breeze and took about 45 minutes. I used ROM Manager to make a backup with my stock 2.1 and another backup after all was setup and running smoothly with 2.2 and now, I load other ROMS occasionally just to remind myself how much I really like the RUU!!

Sorry to add my .02c on the matter but there needs to be a success story every once in a while right?!

And for all those that are about to ask if its worth it... YES. IT IS. The power. Its strong and has led me to the dark side. And I will not be going back.

Don't forget to update the Flash 10.1 to the latest version 10.1.92.8. Flash runs very smooth now. You can download and run the APK no root reqired.

I keep getting a "USB Connection Error" after agreeing to the first 2 screens when it tries to verify information on the phone. The phone is mounted as a drive and I have no problem accessing it and copying/pasting files through Windows. Any ideas?

Superbad, do you get an error number? 170 or 171? if so, read the bottom of the original post and it links to a thread on how to fix that. its usually something to do with HTC Sync.

rsarno,
com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk

i uploaded it there. i found it in another thread but dont remember which one and dont feel like hunting it down. just download to sd and install like normal. except you'll see an "update" button if youre using Astro File Manager instead of "install."

it'll change the flash version number and you should see a MASSIVE smoothing of your flash video.

you might also go to the internet settings and set "enable plugins" at the bottom to "on demand." seems to help a little bit more.

I found it on the DroidLife site in an article dated Aug 23. Am I allowed to post a link? For some odd reason I had trouble downloading the apk on my pc but was able to do so with no problems from my phones browser. I ran it from the sd card and voila smooth flash.

I used your method and it works. My questions is, will my phone mess up/brick if I install the official version from the Google servers (as in this article) over your version:

I found myself checking the update every 5 minutes and finally lost my patience.. so, I decided to run the RUU update last night. I have XP Pro running on my home PC but had the 170 error message when my phone is connected. Installed the HTC Sync and had the same error message popped up.. Got mad for about 2 minutes and restarted my PC and Boom!! Everything went flawlessly and my Incredible is now running on Froyo. No issues or hiccups at all.

I had to reconfigure the settings and reload all the apps, but it's just nice and clean, and even getting better battery life as well. I feel like I just got a brand new Incredible with factory loaded Froyo on it.

Thank you very much, true!!

You would be downgrading from the Root, then install 2.2, then re-root.

installed w/o any problem, on XP SP3, now have couple questions. Pretty noob with all phone things, but interested, trying to learn more lol.

1. As the boot animation is droid one, I assuming this is not the OTA 2.2 ? If not what's the different?

2. My 2.1 was rooted, and before installing this, I did s=off. So what to do now to root the 2.2?

Thanks

Update, how come I can't get into clockwork now? everytime unrevoked3 says failed
