Update, how come I can't get into clockwork now? everytime unrevoked3 says failed
wow, i thought this thread was dead.
yes, even with the official OTA, the boot animation has changed.
there is no difference between this RUU and the official OTA.

2.1 could be rooted.
2.2 has yet to be rooted.
wait it out for a bit, im sure "they're" working on it.

p.s. TODAY was the day that i received my 2.2 update text message, lol.
couple weeks late.

Default This is great, thanks - but I can't even open this file (Win 7)

The file which u said was uploaded as an executable (I had to take an alternative to Megaupload, which is totally unresponsive now) is not listing to be any version of Windows *.exe file, as is reflected in the error message I'm getting. It's a very long file name, but your non-link account of it shows it ending in .exe, which is not how the file name, nor does type: exe appear in the Properties box. Does it have to be compiled first or something?

No worries. It doesn't need to be compiled, the link probably just expired. If none of the other links work, ill upload it again. Itll be a while before I get a chance because Im not at home right now, but ill de do that as soon as I get there.

both the first and third links work. they redirect to a download of the .exe
i am not sure why its not working for you since it is win7. there are other windows 7 users in here that made it work, but this method is specifically for xp.

I'm not sure why either, but Win7 got stuck just trying to get the file type down - and they did not show *.exe in the file names, nor the tag info. Today, I finally got the Megaupload problem figured out, which did turn out to be my script security software, but once opened your file ran for only a few seconds on my PC, and then it quit. This (installation from .exe files) is not a common problem which I've had under NoScript, so I guess the file just has a violent Win7 allergy.

I don't like to complain, understanding the hard work you went to, but you may be aware that some of us don't currently have any XP machines. My old one, which I haven't completely discarded, will be useless until I can get my hands on a working external DVD drive, in order to make a clean install possible.

I'm pretty good at setting up new systems, and I have tried to install XP to a separate partition of the hard drive in my current system, just as I have with Win7 and various versions of Linux. It's more than 3 years old, purchased with Vista, which I replaced with Win7 (which is comparably one of the finest systems available). I repeat, the hardware is at least 3 years old, and XP could not be installed to that (three different discs were tried), and XP compatibility issues with hardware designed for Win7 has been reported by others.

I'm just trying to explain how complicated this can be in 2010 when the only available clean install file doesn't run on in a current OS or hardware. It's really disturbing when a half-assed update (not that I blame you for that) turns your phone into a useless, flashing brick, and you don't have a landline (a decision I made when cell phones were dumber, but a lot more reliable), and the files by which you would install the new system the right way aren't available for your PC, for which you have never had trouble finding software to run on it . This is why I'm hoping you know where there may be a Win7 Froyo clean-install file available.

Thanks for reading this! Your help really is very much appreciated!

Happy

Thank you so much! I had to downgrade to 2.1 stock due to an issue. I then found that I could not apply the May OTA update (removed from google servers) required to update to 2.2. I was told I would have to take it to a Verizon full service center for them to push to my phone but then I wondered if there was a way to to a clean install and I found this. What a life saver. I ran into the 170 error but the link provided worked perfectly. I now have 2.2 installed, updated, and a clean install to boot!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm having issues with the RUU.

I can get through the first few "checklist" things, but when it tries to verify my phone (ie. after I've ensured the phone is one, battery above 30% etc) it gives me the 120 error; the one that says I don't have enough battery. My phone is fully charged. Huh????

Were you still on 2.1 for some reason or what are you trying to accomplish using the RUU?

Yah, for some reason it says I'm still stuck on 2.1-update1. Whenever I try to check for updates it says I'm up to date.

As I said, I've downloaded the RUU and it works fine up til the point where it says I have to have more than 30% battery. I've tried it multiple times to no avail - keeps giving me the same error when my phone has 90%+ battery.

EDIT; got it to work using the PB99IMG.zip method.
