For those interested, the Gingerbread keyboard is available for download. This link says it only works on rooted devices (which I did, and confirmed it works flawlessly), but there are lots of non-rooted phones that installed it do using other means

swype is the best...I've been having troubles with it so I downloaded Ultra which is ok but the accuracy isn't there. I'm waiting to get my issues resolved with swype to redownload...no keyboard has compared so far

I like the Gingerbread keyboard for simply entry and swype red with mic button for text and email.

I have tried a few of them, swype I didnt like, I made 1 with htc_ime, and just downloaded the the new gingerbread to give it a try, but I keep going back to swiftkey, The predictions are just awsome, and they are coming out with skins for it shortly

I recently started using Ultra Keyboard, and for the most part really like it. There are times when I miss the text prediction of Switftkey. If I switch back to Swiftkey, there are times I miss some things in Ultra. Wish one of them had all of the things I like.

I use the Gingerbread (now) primarily, but I have Swype for those longer txt only e-mails.

...if Swype doesn't go public soon they're going to find more people losing interest in the product. I pretty much have.

I like Smart Keyboard Pro and the stock keyboard. I love how the space bar is extra long on Smart Keyboard, but I don't like how sometimes the voice commands button disappears when in portrait mode.

Been using the Smart keyboard for a week and it's the best one (out of many) that I've used thus far.

I tried the new gingerbread keyboard but it felt kind of laggy and I did't really see an improvement over the stock HTC sense keyboard. I've tried swiftkey but keep going back to stock.

plus, there's all kinds of skins for it that you can download for free in the market i'm a girl so obviously i picked the hot pink one.
Wow. I figured there would be a little more love for Better keyboard in here, but I guess not. I've been using it for close to a year now and keep coming back to it. Tried just about everything else, and better keyboard is just old faithful. Got the Simple keyboard skin....... love it

Swype to me is like a video game. It's fun, but there's some days that I'm better at it than others. When it's a good day, it's fantastic. But on bad days I find myself double tapping almost every word to fix them and that gets really annoying...

I've used the stock HTC keyboard, SwiftKey, and Swype and I find that for my typing ability nothing beats the stock keyboard. When you're normally typing using Swype the dictionary gets in the way and you have the select the word, while the HTC keyboard pretty much knows what you're typing and selects it for you (though that can get annoying sometimes).

Ultra Keyboard with tracing on... Used to use swiftkey but Ultra with tracing (swype like) is much faster.

How I rank the keyboards I've tried extensively since April:

1. SwiftKey
Best word prediction and next word prediction. Makes the fewest mistakes. Multitouch. Great landscape mode. Fast. Does take up a lot of the screen though.

2. Swype
Been using it since the first beta. When it works, it's so fast. Can use it one handed, which is nice. Landscape is OK. Touch typing is terrible. I find myself making a lot of mistakes that I have to go back and correct.

3. Gingerbread.
Very close to Swiftkey, prediction not quite as good, no next word prediction. Multitouch.

4. Stock keyboard.
Solid keyboard, nothing fancy. Decent prediction.

5. SlideIT
Like Swype, but not as good.

6. Ultra keyboard.
I've heard the hype. Just don't like it. Swype mode not as good as Swype. Touch typing OK. Prediction isn't that great. Usability kind of clunky/ugly.

SwiftKey is the only keyboard that I use now. I'm a beta swype tester and I used to love it. Now it never works more than a day without having to reset it.

Swiftkey just got a sexy new HD skin and added more languages. I've been using it for a while and switching from time to time, but now its my default. The new version is free for 31 days if any are interested in giving it a shot.

I believe the free is only good for a certain amount of time. Maybe a week? The new HD skin is pretty sweet. More skins coming soon!!!

Gingerbread is the best one I've used compared to Shapewriter, 8pen, droid X port, Swiftkey.

I loved SwiftKey till the HD version. I am apparently too old for the keyboard now. I can hardly see the main characters and the alternate ones (top right on the keys) are invisible to my old eyes. I am back to Swype unless they change it back to the old style.

Where do you get the HD Skin for it? I have the paid version. I did just get an update and the layout was changed but I can't seem to find "skins" anywhere.

Swype's newest update has me flying like nothing else. Tried Swiftkey and Better Keyboard, can't say the same. Too steep of a learning curve on 8pen.

There is no additonal skin to get, they just redid the stock keyboard to make it look better, particularly on higher resolution screens like the DI.

I'm a fan of Swifkey. The word prediction is fantastic; it really cuts down on the number of keystrokes when typing. I also like the Nexus keyboard as well, but Swiftkey is my primary.

I've been converted to Swiftkey, but for some reason the new HD skin makes me feel like I make more mistakes...as if each individual button is now significantly smaller.

With all these keyboard I constantly hit "." or "b" instead of the space bar, which is really really annoying (landscape mode).
